Ahh ok makes me feel better to know that the panic is shared  I think we just have to assume that they will let us know tomorrow or Saturday, which BA did you apply for?

Applied for human sciences (yes, a bit mind boggling that it falls under a BA). Still no emails this morning :frown:

What did you apply for? Let me know if you have any luck on the interview front!

Yea! Jardine Scholarship. H.K, I guess you're Indonesian ?

Any idea what the grant amounts to (and how heavy the competition is)? XD

I applied the same scholarship. No reply for interview for the scholarship at all, but an interview offer from Oxford. :frown: I am from HK.

SORRRRY I DIDNT REPLY LAST NIGHT, SLEEP WAS NECESSARY!!

To the english and history applicant:

Youu will have one interview with the history department, they'll talk about your essay with you, and about the topics youve studied at college. For example, i wrote my essay on the emancipation proclamation and the extent to which is was motivated by morals. They spent half of the interview asking me questions about that, they try to get you to think deeper than you have in your essay, so they'll ask you things in the same subject area but with a slightly different spin. For my A levels i did modern american history, we had a brief debate about the quagmire thesis. Then they may focus on your personal statement for some time, they like to catch you out on sweeping statements, for example, i'd said something along the lines of history presents the path taken by nations to move from monarchy to government. I was then asked in which countries is the power currently moving the other way. Your english interview will be alot of questions about books you've studied and read for pleasure. They want to think you read constannnntly (because thats what you have to do when you get here xD) But dont lie! They are very good at catching you out.

TO THE HISTORY AND POLITICS APPLICANTS

As your doing two subjects, your two interviews will be simmular to whats described above, your history interview will be as explained. Your second interview will be with the politics department. IF you have studied politics before, brush up on a couple of really good topics, as they generally ask you what you would like to talk about/what areas you have studied. They want to engage you in a discussion, so dont mention anything that your not totally sure about. For example, in my politics interview i mentioned that i'd recently studied socialism. He asked me what about socialism i found interesting, i mentioned the debate that 'socialism is dead' in the modern world. We then debated for most of the interview over whether or not it was dead. I was also briefly asked about my other a level subjects and how i thought they could compliment history and politics. I did english and spanish, so it was pretty easy to make up a link between them!

Some colleges however, assume that people wont have studied politics before, so they will give you a task in your second interview. This is commonly a source that you have to read through (normally given ten minutes to do so before you go in) Then they will ask you questions/ discuss the nature of source with you. It wont be anything scary, they are generally quite nice!

Going to interview for History and Politics

What if they are not familiar with the topic of my submitted essay?
I wrote about some economics shifts caused by migration in Hong Kong.(I am a HK student. Though I also study European and other Asian topics, I am not confident enough to submit an essay on these topics.) Hong Kong is a very small place indeed, what are they going to discuss with me.

And how to link up English A Level and the degree. I think my English curriculum is quite different from the UK one.:s-smilie:

Lol maybe its just different.
I guess you're UK based, or HK based?

Tbh, their people have basically said something along the lines of:

"'bout ur thing. Turn up at this address, ask for me, heres a map. kthxbai."

Nothing whatsoever about preparations, etc.

So personally I'm skeptic.

I haven't heard from them yet. At least now I know I am not the only one. I have the impression that Balliol is one of the last colleges to send out invitations/rejections.

Btw, I am applying to read PPE, what abou you?
