I missed a conversation about Mean Girls? :frown:

Please praise the Lord for getting my sister to her first graduation! (She's a medical student, so this is not the "real" one, just the Medical Sciences one) :woo:

Well done to the Lord...and to your sister! A big hurdle over...

Thanks. We're extremely proud of her and her achievements. She struggled a lot the first two years because she'd had to teach herself A Level Biology and Chemistry, whereas most of her peers at uni are from private schools and had been taught well. She's been doing great these last 1 and a bit years though. She doesn't believe in God unfortunately but I know He's had her back

Those who have struggles to face in addition to the everday struggles of learning are to be especially praised. It is so much harder for the individual who faces additional hardships on their academic journey that others don't have to contend with, to achieve comparably. In my mind, they are the better achievers more especially when it is corroborated with 'value added' considerations.

Her 'faith' may very well be refound when she is a little older...and certainly, when she comes to have children of her own she could very well be touched by that former faith leading to a rekindling of same. :h:

Definitely! She got a 2.1 for her Medical Sciences degree, when everyone (including herself) was expecting her to get a 2.2. The 2.1 was scraped but the point is that she got it!

That's what my mum thinks: that she'll eventually come back to it. She's nevertheless been supportive of my spiritual journey, which I'm grateful for. She's not one of these "you're praying to your imaginary friend" type of atheists :nah:

I love Hot Fuzz, and Shaun of the Dead...

You raise a valid point, I concede.

I was tempted to try this with my placement report, but my manager wasn't happy with it. Such a steward of bars.

Oddly enough my bro is a medical student who's not a Christian too!

Please mega prayers needed, I've had a cold for nearly a month now, and today I woke up and I can physically hear the wheeze in my chest and can't stop coughing = I've got a chest infection. Exam time is NOT a good time to get a chest infection at all. Plus doctor's blatantly not going to have any appointments, and even if they did, antibiotics wouldn't kick in before tomorrow.

It's cool. We're having a GET FAT party in London, right? That makes everything better. Even managers who won't let me paste cute pictures all over documentation.

I'll pray for you  I just got rid of a chest infection myself, would've hated to have it during exams!

I was doing so well, hadn't had chest infection all term (if you were my doctor/knew my medical history you would know this is amazing) and now I have one...and it sucks.

I've been getting one every winter for the last couple of years, but I'm good the rest of the year.

I've sent a prayer request round the Christian mailing list at work for you. More prayers are good, right?

Aww thanks hun  I had 14 in the two years before coming to uni, had a couple in first term of uni and last easter got a mega bad chest infection and multiple other viral/bacterial infections which meant I slept for 52 hours straight, literally couldn't move I had so little energy etc. mum had to come up to look after me :colondollar: plus I'm allergic to two most common antibiotics so always a bit of an issue.

But I have a hatred of awkward silences, so I talk lots to compensate! Might see if I can get seen in the 2-3pm drop in hour :yep: see if I can get some antibiotics and an inhaler. At least the inhaler would help me pre exam. Although antibiotics and daft friday would mean I'd probably just not bother drinking.

Your sister sounds a very nice person who has been well brought up by her parents. And she's obviously much more intelligent that the sort of atheists you mention.

In addition to prayers, you could also treat yourself to a steam inhalation with a touch of salt in it...t'will help to loosen that mucuous that's causing the wheeze. :console:

And remember, if it's a viral chest infection antiobiotics don't do much.

Gosh, I sound just like my cousin who's a respiratory nurse specialist. I can just hear her saying that now...! :colondollar:

Edit: Just read your post where you refer to getting an inhaler. Are you asthmatic? If so, maybe you should double up on your sterioid inhaler dose. My cousin saw me this morning when she popped in for a quick cuppa. I am troubled with my viral chest infection at the moment too and she said I should be increasing my 'oxis' dosage to get me over the worst of it and prevent it developing into something worse. Since I definitely don't want to end up as an emergency admission to hospital just before Christmas and before going off to mainland Europe, I've taken her advice and done what she suggested immediately.

Haha, fair enough. Awkward silences are pretty rubbish. Got another Christmas lunch with work now, should pass some time... Hopefully. Ciao! Get well soon!

Oh don't worry I'll be inhaling loadsa steam. Luckily for me in the past the combination of antibiotics and the steroids in the inhaler help me out so hopefully doctor will prescribe me them :yep:

They don't have to be awkard. Many societies embrace lulls in conversation because they don't feel the need to talk if there's nothing important to say....not something our society is good at, I'll agree.

Those silences can be a God-given opportunity to pause and reflect.

Good silences are fine. Awkward silences are not. Like when a tutor asks a question, even if I don't know the answer I somehow start speaking to stop the awkward silence...

I do this too  It seemed to work though, I got good marks for seminar participation this year!
