Oh, I didn't see that :colondollar:. But there are tons of awesome non-Ghibli anime movies. You should watch The Boy Who Saw the Wind -- it's really under-rated but it's awesome.

Sunset Boulevard always seems to come up in the top 10 of best films of all time, so I thought I'd watch it.

Now, I love 50s films, All About Eve being my personal favourite, but I didn't see why Sunset Boulevard is ranked amoungst the best.

It's a very good film, I enjoyed it but wasn't blown away. What are other people's thoughts on this?

Yeah I studied Sunset Blvd earlier this term, watched it twice in 2 days, still don't see the big deal... I mean it's a good film, got some good writing and everything, but it's no Citizen Kane or anything.

I think one part of it might be how much I hate and am annoyed by

Yesss, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks this! It's a very watchable movie but I didn't find myself impressed by it...

Agree. These films do tend to have great dialogue. Especially All About Eve, some fantastic lines in that "slow curtain, the end". I also remember in Sunset Blvd when the narrator speaks of Norma Desmond as if someone waving to a parade that has long since passed her by, I love these little touches.

I am looking for a movie, preferably a classic (as it's the safest option) that is of the ilk of American Beauty or The Shawshank Redemption, a film that makes you think but is watchable enough. Something with a philosophical and at the same time entertaining aspect to it. Something deep. Any suggestions?

My Spanish homework is to watch Pedro Almodovar films, specifically All About My Mother which we are studying for the exam. I'm cool with this. :smile:

All I'd say is Brief Encounter does that for me with human relationships :smile:

Haha brilliant! My christmas homework is to watch The Godfather which I accidentally put myself through last night before even finding out it was homework. WHAT A SHAME :biggrin:

The Black List 2011 - a list of producers' favourite unproduced screenplays of 2011, which may get produced in the future (the list has in the past featured such films as Juno and The King's Speech). :yy:

Grace Of Monaco, The Three Misfortunes Of Geppetto and Saving Mr. Banks interest me out of those.
Some will get made, some won't.

Some Black List films turn out to be absolutely ****, if I remember correctly.
The End, Bethlehem, Desperate Hours and Leaving pete interest me. I don't know what that says about me though :ninja:
