The Student Room Group

Trance Music Society

I believe the existing Dance and Trance Music Society has become a blur in recent times with discussions switching to House and Dubstep! So I believe that it would be wise to create a new subthread which is focused purely on Trance Music as a subgroup!

This a thread dedicated to all forms of Trance from the Who's afraid of 138 Trance to Trouse.

Currently fond of Arty. Favourite is almost always female vocal trance.

Also in - it's a shame the genre has died down in general since the 'heydays' of ~'96-'06.

Then again, I've not been enjoying it as much as I used to.

Two of my personal faves are Goldenscan's 'Sunrise' and Rob van den Beuken's 'Sunset'.

Trance has evolved from the early 90's but we still have great music these days.

I am locked into Gareth Emery at the WHP Manchester

With your first sentence I would like to think that Trance Music has evolved into a new breed of Trance with Progressive Trance, Vocal Trance, Electro Trance etc. But Trance these days is as strong as ever thanks to Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Above and Beyond and the new breed e.g. Arty, Gareth Emery and Orjan Nilsen.

You may be a bit pessimistic about Above and Beyond being Trance but they themselves have argued about their new stuff being an evolution of Trance and they have called it Trance 2.0.

It is a shame that there aren't as many people who are into Trance though and I don't understand it. It's so much better than listening to commercial crap in the charts.

What you mustn't forget is that trance was once itself 'commercial crap', and is indeed right through Germany, Holland, Belgium and many of the Baltic states as well as (of course) Greece and Cyprus.

Of course there's still some amazing trance out there, but there are too many artists that I perceive to be 'lazy' within the genre - Michael Woods is a prime example.

I've leaned more towards Electro myself over the last few years with the emergence of artists like Bloody Beetroots, Crookers, Passion Pit and Kissy Sell Out.

Nice but I used to enjoy looking through the old Trance thread for classics

Loved Trance in the old days. Tracks like Sasha's Xpander are brilliant. Not much of a fan of modern trance though uplifting trance circa styles like Andy Blueman is magical. Apart from that i don't listen to any modern trance.

Dark psychedelic trance>all other forms of trance (in my overly annoying, perhaps zealotesque, way).
