York Applicants 2012!!

I've been looking for a first year English student as I have a few questions to ask  hope you don't mind answering them. I got an offer from York a few months back but I'm still undecided as where to go (I'm terrible at making decisions).

I was wondering, how many lectures/seminars do you attend in an average week? And how many essays in an average week as well?
Do you feel like you get enough support and help from the Department staff or are you left to fend for yourself when it comes to getting work done (I understand that there is lots of research involved but is there a tutor you can go to if you're completely lost?)
And how is the course assessed in general?

Thank you!

Last term I had 2 2 hour long seminars and 1 lecture per week, and this term I have 2 2 hour seminars and 3 lectures per week. We do 4 essay per term, 2 for each module. I feel like I've always had lots of support, yes. You can always email or meet up with your module tutors to talk over things with them, or you can just take advantage of any tutor's office hours. In my first term I was writing an essay on Beowulf, so I found a professor here who specialises in Old Englishy stuff and just went to have a chat with him about it, and he was very happy to talk to me even though I wasn't actually his student. You will also have a supervisor throughout the whole of your degree who you can talk to about more general problems, like anything affecting your work, whether you're finding it difficult to keep up with anything or whatever. The course is primarily assessed by essays. I have 1 exam this year, and I think I have 2 exams next year, and none in the third year.

Thinking about firming PPE here. From what I have understood, York seems to be the second best place in the UK (and possibly the world) to study PPE at. Any objections?
Hi everybody!

I'm just wondering if anybody has had an offer for History at York Uni?

Thank you x
Got my offer from York today! Five offers from five uni's!

Now onto phase two of the UCAS cycle: deciding between Sheffield, Exeter, York, and Leeds.

I'm pretty sure I am but I want to visit it before I make my decision. Which uni are you planning to firm?

Yeah, same here. Not actually been before, but looks really nice! I think I'm going to firm Bristol.

Where else have you applied?

Bristol is amazing. I'd certainly choose it over York.

I applied to York, Birmingham, Manchester, Lancaster and Queen Mary. So I far I got unconditional offers from York and Birmingham and haven't heard from the rest.

Ah! Phew, I've had all of my other offers and have really been panicking because York will be my first choice if they'll have me.
Good to know I'm not alone!

Hopefully I'll like it when I go to visit.

And ah cool, best of luck with the rest of them even though you're probably firming York!
