Art Foundation Courses: St Martins vs Camberwell?

They all use the buses which go everywhere if under 19 next aug you get free bus pass if on foundation. Some halls walking distance too

Camberwell definitely. I'm on the foundation at the moment and it's great. The numbers in each class are small, the tutors are lovely and all practicing artists and there are so many opportunities. Tomorrow we have a talk at the National Gallery with the curator.
It has really given me the chance to see so much of London.

yeah I know its like £6000 which is a lot of money I'm not sure if its worth it that much, its meant to be really prestigious is it worth getting into debt (parents taking a loan) - like an investment in my future or something lol has anyone been to it ? whats it like?

it's a private school, personally i wouldn't spend that much when i could get into another course for FREE (unless i was really rich haha). the upside to it is that you'll get lots of tutor attention, they keep the course very small. but there are plenty of prestigious places that offer foundation courses for free, and in the end it's your degree that counts the most - as long as you have a good portfolio universities don't take too much notice of where you did your foundation.

This. Foundation courses are generic. Their purpose is to help you build up a portfolio for your chosen specialism. It doesn't really matter where you go to do it. It's the next step (and your talent) that's important.

I was considering applying to City and Guilds for the foundation last year! Mainly because I liked the style of work, the small numbers, the good student to tutor ratio etc. However I am now so glad that I didn't go! I did my foundation at Camberwell instead.

UAL is much more in the real world. Much more informed, more contacts and opportunities etc. It is 'mainstream' in the art world.

have to completely disagree!! It really does matter where you go! It is a really important first year.

I have spent the first year of my 'art school' career within UAL. I feel very privileged to have moved to London firstly. To have done so much primary research that has hugely influenced my work. This has included a lot of gallery visits, talks by artists, curators of galleries etc. To have spent the year working with tutors who are all practising artists in London, and many of which are on the selecting teams for the BA courses. They have a good idea of what they are looking for in an applicants work.

To have been influenced by such a diverse group of people (peers) who have all been brought together through UAL from all over the world.

Surely there has to be a great advantage to becoming so informed?
