Volver and Amélie are on the poster for that!! By the way, is the language in your banner thingy (I've forgotten what it's called) Portuguese? I really want to go, but I don't think I'll have the transportation to get there and the only film I'm eligible for is Entre les murs and it's at 6pm! Which film are you going to see?

Yes, it's Portuguese

Ahh, well that's a shame. I'm going with my class to see Pan's Labyrinth.

My friends said it went okay too. One said that there was a very weird passage on the reading passage about Santa Claus, I think. She may have completely misunderstood it though :s-smilie: Both my friends can't tell how they've done on the writing as well! I think that would be the hardest to revise for just because of the content they want you to put in, and it carries the most marks for the writing :/

I didn't even ask! Damn. I didn't even have a proper lesson yesterday because the Spanish exam was going on. I had plenty of time to ask, but I didn't! I didn't even do much Spanish in class so I could've went home, but I stayed and then got home late. I did things wrong on Monday. Well it was Blue Monday, so I guess that it affected my decisions, but it didn't make depressed. Hahaha! You made me laugh so much! I thought I was bad at art and then I saw what you wrote! Well, I am bad at art (I can't even draw stick men properly), but I know enough artists...I think.

I really wish I did French!! :frown: I was better at French at GSCE level than Spanish. Now my French is really crappy :/ I've read lots of War Literature about Germans in France during World War I and II and I recently watched the film 'Un long dimanche de fiancailles' which is set during World War I  It was really good! I think I prefer History to Art as well, even though I study neither of them!!

There's a map of Spain detailing the Spanish regions in my Spanish class room and my old Spanish teacher showed us where lots of places were and I often walk past that map, but I can't remember where anything is! I think I'm actually going to make an effort to learn where places in Spain are after my Jan exams! My knowledge of English geography is quite good now, but it was terrible before. I used to think London was in the North and I just erased Wales from the map and when I added it back then it was up North by Scotland  My old Spanish teacher had to tell me where Wales is and she's a Spanish native. What's worse is that I live kind of close to Wales, but still didn't know where it was

She is the most irritating teacher I've ever had!!! I don't even know why she has an A level class! She's so weird as well. Hopefully she's just doing it in class and hopefully she'll hear me in the oral exam!

Ah, I forgot Wealth and Poverty. That is good too. I really need to revise it because I've forgotten a lot of it. I think I could talk more about immigration and the environment though. Maybe it's because they're more memorable for me and I just need to revise Wealth and Poverty more. It was also a topic that we started before September, then stopped and after restarted, haha. I don't even know how much left we have to do. There's a section on Euthanasia and Abortion right? If there is, then we haven't covered it yet and we haven't started one of our cultural topics which is the film Volver! I need to make a list of films I need to watch over the summer. I've made one of things I want to achieve this year

I also study English Lit, Philosophy and Ethics and Maths  If abortion and euthanasia are on the syllabus then it'll remember me of AS Ethics which was pretty good. I'm looking forward to talking about them in another language. If they're not on the syllabus then I need to stop hallucinating or I need to stop obsessing over euthanasia and abortion. What other subjects do you study?

You're friend was right about Santa Claus, there was a really weird passage about Santa and perfect men, and it was so funny I nearly started laughing in the exam hall! Yeah, well I thought the writing was my strongest section last year, and it turned out to be way weaker than the other parts so I'm just telling people I don't know about the writing this time!!

Ah that's annoying! Haha, I am appalling at art, I'm known throughout my year for being absolutely dreadful at it! And I know very little about artists (apart from Monet, because we've done that in loads of detail in French!)

I'm sure you're French is still really good, it would all come back to you if you went out there! Did you consider doing it for A level? Haha, well I did History at GCSE and loved it, but I decided it felt a bit repetitive doing it at A level as the topics were quite similar to the GCSE ones.

Haha, that's quite funny, makes me feel much better about my geography being bad! I guess it's my sense of direction that's really bad though, it's much worse than my geography... I frequently get lost! My friend was going to look at at uni in Scotland, but I was telling everyone she had gone to look at a uni in Wales because I got confused as to where it was, then when I told people what uni it was there were like err that's in Scotland!! :s-smilie:.

She sounds really frustrating, is there anyone you can speak to about her?

I think under technological change, there might be something about Euthanasia/Abortion, although apparently it's not covered much in the text book but there might be stuff on it in the exam/oral so most teachers find extra stuff about it/try to cover it. So you'll be able to bring in all your philosophy and ethics there:smile:

Ah that's a really nice combination:smile: Doing English and Maths is rather impressive! I also do Economics and French (as you've probably guessed hahah!) and General Studies:smile:. I did English literature AS.

Do you know when you're doing your oral?

I don't know what it's like for your exam board, (we're on WJEC) but maybe they thought you needed teaching on exam technique? One of my friends was a fluent French speaker but he didn't do very well because he didn't listen to the exam technique.

For me it (AS and A level) seems more about learning how to get marks instead of being good at speaking Spanish (can anyone correct me on this?)

Nah they do AQA  Theyre just lazy as ****. They dont want to changer their timetable.. I dont see how if you speak it fluently you'd have any problems tbh. Its like an english person going to another country and doing a much higher qualification in english equivalent to A-level...
Just had my spanish speaking resit...went well!

She almost started laughing too! She then thought her Spanish was way off, lol. I've always preferred the reading and listening sections to the writing section because all the answers are right in front of you. You just have to find them, lol. The answers really aren't in front of you in the writing section. I think it's so hard to guess what you've gotten on an essay in any language really. I thought I failed one section of my English Lit exam and it turned out that I did better on that section than on the other.

I went to France last year for a week and I only said things like 'merci' and 'de rien' or 'bonjour', haha. I went to a part in France where most people spoke English and where shop owners spoke Spanish, German and English so that was annoying. Yeah, I really wanted to study French as one of my A levels, but it clashed with another subject and my school wouldn't allow me to do 5 subjects. It's a shame really. I wish I did History as a GCSE as well! I'm not gonna talk about why I didn't study History because that would result in me ranting about my school again, lol. A level History seems really hard. I think I'd die if I studied it!

Haha, I get lost quite often as well. I went to York with my brother and sisters and if it wasn't for them then I would have been lost in the York city centre! I still don't know how they navigated through that city centre. Everything looked the same to me. Haha, before I applied to UCAS I didn't know where many universities were either! I think Wales and Scotland were meant to be by each other, because I thought Wales was up north with Scotland and you mistook a uni in Scotland as being in Wales! I guess we learn from our mistakes though!

She's my main teacher and there are only 2 teachers who know enough Spanish to teach it us at A level and she's one of them. She taught the AS French class and they got Es which is kind of scary. That's why our other Spanish teacher is the main teacher for the French class. She's a better teacher and will probably help them improve their bad AS grade. She makes me not want to speak in class, but we have a Spanish assistant that we speak to so I get my speaking time with her and I feel like I'm making progress. If it gets to the point where my classmates and I aren't making any progress then I'll speak to the head of department

Yeah, they are under the technology section! Thanks for telling me  I actually find the technology section quite interesting  We are actually going to do practice oral exams every week, but I was away last week and so missed one. I thought we were not going to speak much in class so I was pleasantly surprised to know that we'll practise every week. We're finally getting time to speak! It's really hard though!

I don't know why I chose to study Maths. Well, I kinda like it and it feels so good when get a question right that seemed impossible to do when you first looked at it, but I wish Maths and French were in the same block because I would have dumped Maths on its ass and then would have run and hugged French  I had my C3 Maths exam today and it was terrible. It really made me wish it was a French exam!!! Haha. Which exam board did you do English Lit on and why did you drop it? What is General Studies, lol? I wish I knew a lot about Economics, haha. It does sound interesting. I'm into too many things. I also like Science :colondollar: Picking 4 A levels was one of the hardest things that I've done in my life.

Hahah, it was quite funny! Yeah, I know what you mean, if you're not sure about an answer, you just look in the gap between the answer before and the answer after . I agree, essays are really hard to judge, I was pretty convinced I'd messed up English lti last year and it turned out to be one of my best exams! Whereas in Spanish I thought I'd done OK in the writing and badly in the listening, and it turned out to be the other way round...

Well when they all speak English it's really easy not to practice your French, but I'm guessing if you went somewhere where they hardly spoke any English it would come back to you! Ah, that's really annoying, I would be so annoyed if my school hadn't let me take both languages! They make our option blocks after we've all chosen to try and squeeze everyone's options in:smile:. Oh dear, I'm guessing they couldn't fit History into your timetable either? And yeah, A level history does sound pretty tricky, although a lot of people must like it because it's a really competitive degree!

Hahah, that's how I always feel. I always have to rely on friends to get me to places, otherwise I would just get lost. Although having to ask for directions in foreign languages in France and Spain has made me a lot less concerned about it- if I could work my way back to places even if it did mean asking for directions every 5 minutes there I can definitely do it in my own country! Hahah, that is quite funny, good to know I'm not the only one who doesn't know the geography of the UK:biggrin:

Oh dear- do you have the other teacher for any lessons then? Ah, that is quite worrying, had they all done well at GCSE? That's good that you can practice with an assistant as well, we do that too and it's good because you don't have to worry so much about oral practice in class, we can focus primarily on writing/reading/listening instead:smile:.

Ah that's good, we haven't started it yet so it's good to hear it's interesting! I think we're starting it next week:smile:. Ah that's good, if you can do one every week you'll be an expert by the end!

Yeah, one of my friends feels the same way about maths I think. It's really satisfying when you work something out but it sounds like it can be really frustrating at times! Don't worry, I'm sure you did better than you think- how did you do in Maths at AS? We did AQA English Lit, I dropped it because I found the work load really inconsistent, I had no work for it one night and then hours the next, and last year the coursework had to be done around the same time as my language orals which was tricky! As there's so much work for languages, economics just fitted in better time wise (and I found it a bit more interesting than English!). I enjoyed AS, but the A2 English course didn't appeal to me so much either. General studies ins't accepted for many courses but it's kind of an extra subject that we just have a couple of lessons a week in. There's a module that's kind of science related, an arts related one, now we're doing one on change and progress, and I'm not sure what the final one is. It basically requires you to bring in knowledge from all your subjects, but it's fine because it doesn't really require any revision:smile:. I found picking my A level options quite easy, because I like to specialise! I don't like science, and I'm not particularly creative so that didn't leave many things!

Y tu?

Tienes examenes?

That's why I hate essay subjects sometimes. You don't know how well you've done until you receive your results. I hope I've done well in my essays for my January exams. How have you found your January exams? Why did you drop English Lit when you got an A in it?! I would kill to get an A in English Lit.

I never knew they hardly spoke French in the place I went to. I was so disappointed when I got there, but it was a beautiful place so that made up for everything  They do the same for my cousins :frown: One of them told me people pick their options first and then make the blocks after, but it's the other way around for us. That's why I have to do English Lit at another school too. I never knew History was a competitive degree. Oh, wow. I learn something everyday. I'm beginning to think that most essay based subjects are competitive now.

I haven't even been to Spain :frown: Everyone in my class has but me. I don't even remember how to ask for directions in Spanish let alone French, lol! I actually helped get my friends and I back to a French hotel at night. I was so proud  It was a group effort though and I would have probably got lost without their input, haha.

I have the best Spanish teacher for only one lesson a week and the bad one 3 times a week. I don't know what the boy got for GCSE French, but the girl got an A! I know two girls who got Bs for Spanish at GCSE level, but got better than an E at A level. I actually dread the oral exam practice in class :/ I really hate speaking in class and we're given topics to talk about that we've just started that day. At least we know we'll be better in the actual oral exam because there'll only be the teacher and us and we'll (hopefully) know about the topic we're talking about. Today we had to practice talking about things like Euthanasia and IVF which were very interesting to talk about in English, but it seemed impossible to talk about them in Spanish. I hope I'll be an expert at the end. Do you have any tips on how to do well in the oral exam?

Does your friend do OCR Maths? If so, ask them how they found the C3 exam on the 20th. I found it really different to the past papers and that's what made it difficult to me. I think I only didn't know how to do one question, but I know I've done worse than not knowing how to do one question. I got a C in Maths at AS level, but I did a resit in my weakest exam which went well. I only need 5 UMS marks to get my grade up to a B so I really think I've done that now. If I've done extremely well then I may have even bumped my grade up to an A, because my weakest exam was such a hard one. It was even harder than the C3 exam and I honestly find C3 harder than the other Maths exam I resat. When did you do your language orals last year? I actually enjoy and appreciate English Lit now. I thought I made the worst decision choosing to study English Lit, but it's been one of my best options. I study WJEC English Lit and really enjoyed it at AS level. The coursework was my favourite because of the books and the tasks we had to do. I really didn't like the pieces of literature that we had to study for the exam, but they do have some positives. Well I found some anyway. General Studies seems interesting. I think my school should allow it to be an option for some students  I think I picked all the right subjects except for Maths. I like lots of things but Philosophy and Ethics incorporates many of thing I like, such as science, so that sorted out a lot of things. The hardest thing was dropping French which I still will never forget. I think my school should have let me done 5 A levels and if I messed up then that would be my fault, lol.

Y tu?

Tienes examenes?

Me encanta C1! Trig no desparece.

Eres muy intelligente  Ah, estudié 'The Great Gatsby' para mi' coursework'. No la palabra para coursework también . Además, estudié 'The Diamond as Big as the Ritz' y ' Birdsong' :h: para mi coursework  Estudié 'Dancing at Lughnasa' y la poesía se Carol Ann Duffy y Sheenagh Pugh para el examen de AS  . No he leido ' A Street Car named Desire' pero he visto películas y emisiones sobre él.

Ah, tu colegio parece bueno.

Ah I know what you mean, it's so hard to tell how you've done! I'm sure you've done well though . Think my Spanish was OK(ish), although as you say it's hard to tell with the essay. Economics was a pretty horrible paper, but again, hard to tell how I've done! Well I didn't think I'd be able to retain the A at A2 and it was taking up a lot of time that I wanted to be spending on my other subjects. I obviously wasn't going to drop a language, because I want to do them at uni  and then I found Economics more interesting than English and had more motivation to do well in it, so I dropped English!

Ah that's really frustrating! It must be quite interesting doing one subject at a different school though

We had school trips to Spain where we stayed with families and stuff, and then I've been with my friends as well:smile: hahah, I always feel much more confident asking for directions in foreign countries, probably because I'm more desperate then! Haha that's impressive- my sense of direction is even worse at night:s-smilie:

Oh no, that's awful how much their grades dropped:s-smilie: But I'm sure you'll be fine, at least you have the other teacher for some of the time . Well for the oral last year I had external examiners, which made it hard to prepare in a way, because literally anything could come up! I'd say don't prepare answers, but make sure you've got good phrases and plenty of knowledge of the topics, almost plan answers more than writing them. Making sure you've got lots of ideas in English first helps too:smile:. And then just practice chatting in Spanish loads with your friends. Before I have oral exams, my friend and I just constantly ask each other questions in the foreign language, even if some of them aren't completely related to the exam, it's a good way to pick up vocabulary!

My friend does Edexcel- sorry! Ah that's good, if you can get high UMS at AS, it makes it much easier at A2. I have heard C3's really hard though, and I'm guessing the actual content is similar across the exam boards. I did mine some time before Easter last year, it was good to get them out the way. When did you do yours? Ah that's good, I guess I just got frustrated with English, maybe because we've been studying it all our lives haha! I refer to General Studies as General Nonsense  It's a bit like foreign languages in English in a way though! I've got an exam for it tomorrow, I don't like this module though, the mark scheme and question paper seem to want completely different things!:frown: Ah that's good, it's nice to have a subject like that . Ah would they not let you take 5?

Si, !C1 es genial! Jaja!

Me gusta mucho Auden!

No puedo decidir jeje.

Jajaja! NO! Me gusté mucho The Great Gatsby y Birdsong para mi coursework de AS. Estudié Seamus Heany y Gillian Clarke para GCSE. Pienso que tu frase es correcta. Te comprendo  Encuentro los pronombres confuses todavía! Hay muchas ideas interesantes en The Wife of Bath's Prologue and Tale, pero las citas son tan difíciles a recordar. Measure for Measure es tan extrana y The Duchess of Malfi es triste pero los prefiero a The Wife of Bath

I hope I’ve done well, lol  I know you’ve done better because you seem like a talented linguist  My friend does Economics and that’s what she wants to study at university. I hope you’ve done well on that one too. It seems like some of the January exams were horrible :s-smilie: My friend who does English Lit said that the exam could have been better, my maths exam was horrible, I’ve heard some Biology exams were horrible and the AS Philosophy exam was horrible too, according to some year 12s, who may not be a reliable source, lol. Ah, it seems really logical that your dropped English Lit.

It is interesting doing another subject at another school, but it’s quite awkward sometimes because I’m the only one from my school. There's a divide in the class between the ones who go to the school and the others who don't. However, I think I prefer the English Lit at the other school to the one at my school as well so it kind of worked out.

That’s so cool! I’ve never been to Spain and I can’t wait to go  I’m going to try and go this year!! I always try and talk Spanish with my classmates, but they don’t want to, lol. I’m going to make them talk Spanish in the near future, lol. It does really help doesn’t it? Even if what you're saying is wrong it still makes you more confident to speak the language. I have really bad night vision so I was glad my friends were there with me.

I know. I was really shocked when they told me what they got. Whilst studying GCSE French the girl in the A level French class was my competition and I truly expected her to get a great grade. She’s done a resit so I really hope she’s done well this time! Yeah, it is better to plan answers rather than writing reams to just memorise like a robot. I tried to act like a robot when revising for my Philosophy exam, but then I started to notice that the information wasn’t sticking in my head so I started shortening what I had to memorise and that helped me a lot to remember the information. It’s more spontaneous as well not to just remember planned answers. Thanks for the tips! I am really going to badger my friends to talk Spanish with me!!! Did you talk to your friends in or outside of class?
Ah, I wish I did Edexcel Maths. AQA is more similar to OCR I think. We ran out of OCR papers to do so we did an AQA one and my teacher said they were the most similar. Yeah, C3 is hard, but I began to get better and used to it and then that C3 popped up. Looking back at it, I do think it was a good paper that tested your mathematical skills, but the way they worded the questions and set out the information was nothing like I’ve ever seen before on a C3 paper. I have no common sense as well, haha!

Wow, you did your oral exam early! I think I did mine after Easter. Yes, after Easter. Well, I started GCSE English Lit in Year 11 so I’ve only really studied it for 3 years. I know we’ve studied English for all our lives, but I found English Lit to be different than just English alone. I like the name General Nonsense, haha. The mark scheme and the question paper want different things? That’s totally confusing! How did you find the module? Do you think the exam went well? No, the head of 6th form said I could not take 5 A levels. Two teachers believed in me, but the rest didn’t and then the head of 6th form said I couldn’t do 5 subjects. :frown:
