I was in Butler last year which is about 30 seconds across the road from the School of Art where you'll be most of the time. The committee's I've seen have all been really good with organising stuff in Fresher's week and making sure there's plenty to do (IMS teams, RAG fundraising, Christmas/Summer balls and even just trips out). The en-suites in Butler are a decent size, it's a pretty standard standing shower, toilet and sink.

sorry to be annoying again but seeing as you stayed there youdknow.. so are all the rooms en suite?! cos theyre rally cheap next year  and was also wondering did you find the amoun of people in one flat too small? and doyou socialise a lot with other flats? and thankyouuuu

The reason Butler is cheap is because you share the room. There's 3 rooms to a flat (so 6 people to a kitchen). I think most halls are roughly 6 to a flat in the halls from what I've seen. I think there are a few rooms with a shared bathroom (where you have your own room) but not many. There's plenty of people who hold pre-drinks in their kitchens before heading into town/to the union for a night out. In Fresher's week the committee will put on loads of stuff that gets everyone together (first few days will be the Sing Off, great fun and a really good night - I went this year even though I'm not in halls) so you're not just limited to your flat.

Being a rule breaking smoker... can I possibly get away with it?
Note that, I'm at boarding school and haven't really been to uni so I wouldn't know about freedom yet haha.

There's smoke detectors in the halls (I'm not sure if there are in the rooms as well, but there's a bloody alarm which you can't sleep thought), and heat detectors in the kitchen. So it's possible, in theory (not that I condone it), to get away with it in the kitchen, but with the cleaners/sub-wardens (each hall has a warden, usually a lecturer who isn't around that much AFAIK; and sub-wardens who are usually post-grads living in their own little flats in the halls) you'll have to get rid of the smell/any trace.

But if you get caught I seem to remember that it can void your contract or involve a pretty hefty fine.

You'd just piss your flat mates off anyway by doing so.

No. The ones that cost ~£3000 that say Twin with En-suite on the fees sheet are the shared rooms. The "Standard" rooms are hard to come by in Butler IIRC, and the Large/Deluxe en-suites are the same size as the shared rooms with an en-suite and are a lot more expensive - I think there's a decent number of these, but AFAIK the majority of Butler is shared rooms.
Thankyouuuuuu
I want a self catered accomodation, but i don't know which halls of residence to apply for. I don't want to pay too much but i don't really like the idea of living in the Telford or Falkner buildings. What accomodation has the best atmosphere, facilities etc.?

There's some info in the first post of this thread. Otherwise... what exactly do you want to know?
I'm going to be doing Fine Art at Loughborough, and I was wondering how long it takes to walk from the "village" area to the school of the arts? I like that Butler Court is pretty much opposite, but the non-shared ensuite rooms are a bit pricey and I don't think I'd want to be in a twin room. So, does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

I'd allow about 20 minutes for it. It'll vary a bit depending on which end of the village park you're at though.

Oh okay, thanks. I won't rule them out then

If you're in halls on campus then you're never going to be more than half an hour at the most from anywhere else on campus, so I wouldn't rule out staying in any of the halls on that basis  You can always cycle as well.
