Is France the Most Racist Country in Europe?

Just reading this bit from http://moronwatch.net/ on the recent attack on Jews by Mohammed Merah. I happened to click on the link when something caught my attention:

The far-right in France, represented by the National Front, is going through a brand detoxification under its new leader, Marine Le Pen. The National Front regularly polls in the 20% range; additionally a strong racist vote goes to Sarkozy’s right-of-centre UMP, as indicated by Sarkozy’s pandering to racism.

What do you think of this? Race (a word I tend to dodge) has been a tentative subject in France, particularly with multiculturalism and ethnic communities.

This.

It was only last year that they elected their first black politician ever.

As a comparison, France managed to reach this milestone almost a century ago in 1914...

Well I wouldn't know 'cause I've never been there. But I'm part French and my great grandma was French, and no one in the family (including me) is racist. My parents told me the people in France were really friendly. When you think about it, there's going to be racism in every country.

What's that got to do with anything? A black politician is far more representative of French society than Russia's. Black people make up a significant part of France's population, the same cannot be said of Russia.

I thought we held that title.
That's how the media makes me feel, anyway.
France is pretty bad, but I've heard Italy and Portugal are worse.

Black people did not make up a significant portion of France's population in 1914, however. Large scale immigration of ethnic minorities only really began in the 1950s, at the start of the post-colonial era.

If I recall correctly, it was France that banned minarets on the basis that they were damaging the traditional French village rooftop aesthetic. If I continue to recall correctly then at the time of the ban there were 3 minarets in the whole of France.

Suffice to say that I think most countries are a bit less racist than that.

Yes, which is why 1914 was the date they had their first 'black politician'.
I don't think so. Personally, I think Francois Hollande (left-wing) will win this election. Sarkozy doesn't seem to be as popular nationally as what he is on the international stage. Don't let Marine Le Pen in though. Sarkozy any time over her!

I don't see that as racist, I think it makes alot of sense actually.

Yes France has a lot of racist people. I guess it shouldn't be that much of a shock that the UK is the least racist country out of a lot of countries? Scandinavia has white supremacism, apparently eastern europe is very racist as well.

What you shouldn't do, is think that because someone isn't the same racial or whatever group as you, that they aren't racist. They can still be a racist ****, so call them that. Call them a racist ****.

Remember (i.e. 2008-2012) the Spanish Alonso fans and Lewis Hamilton in Formula One? Very racist.
White people are the most oppressed group in Europe.
