i may try this if the olive oil dosnt work.

My doctor/nurse who specialises in ear problems recommended olive oil.

Doesn't work as well...involves you washing it with water after too which isn't good for your ears and if you accidently put too much in can cause damage to your ear drum

This is an old thread bit i didnt want to start a new one, Just wanted to ask which olive oil can you use in your ears? is it the standard ones that you can get from the supermarkets?

Get a proprietary cleaner like Cerumol from a chemist. This will act more quickly than olive oli and obviates the need for syringing.

Really? No one's ever told me to wash it out or to be that careful. :s-smilie:

DO NOT use cotton buds...EVER. it compacts the wax not clears it and you risk damaging your ear drum terribly

really? how? thanks for telling me btw!

I used olive oil for 5 weeks last Easter and they were still reluctant to syringe it. I had to beg for them to do it in the end, but it was sooo good to hear again!

The same ear's playing up again atm so think I'm gonna use Otex to try and catch it before it's too late.

Same here. I was given olive oil based ear drops by the doctor last week and wasn't told to clean my ear out after. I was just told to use cotton wool and tilt my head to ensure it's in there.

I didn't have to ask for that to be done and am getting it does next Wednesday. However, the excess wax meant that my hearing in one ear was too sensitive.:frown:

Weird. I dunno why they were so against doing it for me. They wanted me to continue using olive oil but I was at the end of my tether after so long :/
Ive had my ears syringed and i loved it! It was soooo nice!

But then they perforated my ear drum so they wont do it again :frown: Boooo.

Ear drops work perfectly well though

Ear drops work as prevention, but they don't really cure.

[Also, hi, someone from Stoke!]

Errrr, not true.

Few drops of room temp olive oil in the effected ear twice per day.
Soak head under water in bath, or tip affected ear to shower water to allow water to run in (and out).

It'll dissolve slowly what is there, and gradually soften it up so that bits will thn come out in the shower/bath.

Otex ear drops or other ear drops also work well, sometimes slightly better. But some ear drops are bicarbinate based and can be irritating if you overdose on them.
