Im putting up the following halls as my preferences for the accomodation..

1. James Goold

2. James Young

3. Chancellors

Has anybody stayed at any of these places? What should i know about these halls? I hope i made the right choice.

this is my order of preference too!
since you must be at the uni now (judging by the date), what halls did you end up in? and were they nice?

I lived in Chancellors (was my first choice) and all the en-suite ones are practically the same. Chancellors has just been done up this year too

It's all very nice tbh, rooms are a decent size, kitchen/living area is great for socialising. They'll only be as nice as you, the incumbents, take care of them though  In the first semester I remember the kitchen area being a bit uninhabitable due to the mess, but we were better at that as the year went on.

What a location it is too: 5 minutes from Aldi (best/cheapest place to shop), barely 10 minutes from the Union, and about 15 minutes max from Sauchiehall Street.
Also means you can wake up at 8 55am and still make your 9am lecture  I made that into an art form last year
I live out now in Partick over in the West End and miss the convenience that the location brought.

The only downside is to expect a couple of times to have fire alarms at Stupid O'clock at night. This usually dies down throughout the year though, and the uni has cracked down on it as the fire brigade were getting a bit pissed at it.

But, aye great place to live, I kinda miss it tbh :colondollar:

haha well im a little bit of a clean freak, so there should be no problems much with the mess cause everyone will get fed up of me getting on at then xD
yeah when i went to the strath open day i walked past the accommodation, so convenient! haha and i'm sure i'll manage to recreate that art form when i'm there this year! :P

yay, looking forward to going, lots of people saying how good it is so hopefully it lives up to its reputation!
Hello! I'm going to be going to Strathclyde this year, but I can't decide on accommodation :s-smilie:
I know that my first choice is Chancellor's, but I was wondering if anyone could give me more info about James Goold and James Young? Disadvantages and Advantages for both? It would be really, really helpful :blushing:

A look inside James Goold for you

The bathroom is quite small, I can't comment on James Young and comparisons between halls, but when I was in Chancellors I rememeber their ensuites being a bit bigger.

Wow! It looks really nice!
I read somewhere that the shared areas in James Goold weren't really big enough for six people, but I don't know how true that is, the review was quite old :L
Also, do you know how many flats are shared between 8 there? (Sorry for pestering you with questions!)

I have no idea about sharing between 8 for the 1st years  The one's I know of are all for 6 people. But I've had many a gathering before 12 hr Tuesdays in my kitchen, it's good enough to fit everyone in.
There's 6 cupboards below, 6 above, and a few pull out drawers in the kitchen, so there's plenty of room for everyones things. Also, the fridge and freezer have 6 shelfs each, so one for each.

The flats shared between 8 are Thomas Campbell Court and James Blythe.
The flat is like one big living dining room, with two kitchens mirrored coming off it. And off those two kitchens are 4 bedrooms each, and 1 bathroom and separate toilet between the 4 bedrooms.
(I staying in TCC last year)

Ah! So kind of like two flats joined together?
Thanks for the help

Hi, I was just wondering something. I know that all first years who live more than 25 miles out are entitled to a room at halls. If you stay closer than 25 miles but still want to move away from home, are you able to apply for accommodation at Strathclyde Uni??
Thanks :-)

Hey , I was just wonder if you applied for Hall because I am in the same situation. As I live less than 25 miles away from Strathclyde Uni but still want to move away to hall. So I was wondering how likely it would be for me to get a place in the hall and how you got on ?

Thanks

Hey guys!

I've been trying to find out which halls are the most non-party and quiet ones but have kind of failed in my search. I've heard too many stories from people I know that have lived in halls about the fire alarm going off every single weekend. :/ Any knowledge? I like to sleep when it's night time...

It depends who they put in the halls each year.
Send an email with you application explaining that you want a quiet hall.
They've very accomodating and you also get something like 2 weeks to swap when you start if you're not happy.

Anyone except Birkbeck is probably the best advice here

Anyone know when we can start applying for halls? I'm going to accept my unconditional and want to start applying.

There is already an application form on the website, I believe.
Hey guys! I have a question if any of you are up for it...
If you had to rank the halls from quietest to busiest/loudest, what would your order be??

I'm coming on exchange and it says on my application that most non-European exchange students (which would be me) are put in Birkbeck. However, they still give us an opportunity to request other halls as well.
