I loved it.. it was really good and funny

Must watch.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I loved the trailer a lot more than I would for most other movies so I'm really looking forward to seeing it!

From what I've read, it's a unique and interesting story they've used, and something that challenges stigma as well as making good comedy!

Hi everyone, how do you join this group?

It's not an absolute requirement though, most users I've seen don't officially join the society - they just make posts in this thread. Hope that helps.

What was the last Bollywood movie you saw? And what did you think of it?
(edited 11 years ago)
Has anyone seen the film 7 Welcome To London? If so, what did you think of it? Was the acting/story/direction any good? I've heard bits of information and seen a few trailers/music videos but haven't come across any reviews or ratings. It starred Asad Shaan, who was previously a VJ on Zee TV and presented programmes like Brit's Bollywood.

Speaking of British Bollywood actors, what's happened to Upen Patel? I commented on this a while ago and nobody seems to have a clue where he's gone. Fair enough, his last few films didn't do that well but that hasn't stopped many other actors from maintaining a great innings in Bollywood - and Upen hasn't been seen in any film or reported to be filming anything for 3 years now (since Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani in 2009). Sure some actors like to take their sweet time with every film they make (ahem Saif Ali Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan), but Upen's disappearance is very unusual. Last I heard, he was being taken under the wing of Suneel Darshan who contributed to Akshay Kumar's success.

Other than Asad, Upen and Armaan Kimani, are there any other leading Bollywood actors from Britain that anyone has heard of...? :s-smilie:

Me too, I just love the songs Rum Whisky and Paani Da Rang! I've read that Ayushmann has signed another film with the same director from Vicky Donor so if this turns out to be a hit, I'll be waiting with much excitement for the next one!

Which other comedy films are you looking forward to?
The other day I watched a bit of 'Ekk Dewana Tha' ... Oh My Lord. It was so hilariously bad... I can't even explain it...
The actor looked confused all the time, and the girl (Amy or something) just stood there with a straight face - they dubbed her dialogues with someone else's voice as well.
Don't watch it!

I saw Agent Vinod - not bad! Quite enjoyed it.
Also saw Kahaani, which was amazing.

Looking forward to Teri Meri Kahaani :woo:

Really want to see Vicky Donor as well
I've realised that Sonakshi Sinha has taken a page out of Kareena Kapoor's book and managed to fit 6 films into her schedule within 1 year! She will be starring in Joker, Rowdy Rathore, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai 2 (all with Akshay Kumar) as well as Lootera, Son Of Sardar and Dabangg 2!

Without a doubt, Sonakshi will easily compete with other leading actresses for whom 2012 is a year packed full of blockbusters. Priyanka Chopra has Barfee, Teri Meri Kahani, Krrish 3 and the remake of Zanjeer. While Katrina Kaif has Ek Tha Tiger, Dostana 2, Dhoom 3, the untitled Yash Copra film and her next film with Imran Khan.

I've established that my 4 favourite actresses are Sonakshi, Kareena, Priyanka and Katrina. Closely followed by Madhuri Dixit, Preity Zinta, Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukherjee, Karisma Kapoor and Manisha Koirala. So tell me, fellow Bollywood fanatics: who are your favourite actresses?

Vidya Balan

Also loved Priyanka Chopra in Fashion.

Other than that I like Madhuri, Preity Zinta, and all the old ones.

I disagree - I found Ekk Deewana Tha to be a great film. I loved the songs and the romance that lasted all throughout. Prateik's acting was pretty good given that he has some experience already but, fair enough, Amy Jackson could have been better. Bear in mind that she's from Liverpool and this is her first film in Bollywood, probably after just a few months living in India full-time. She isn't as accustomed to south Indian culture as Prateik is (which he acknowledges in some interviews he's done with her). From what I've heard, the general consensus is that the original south Indian film (which Ekk Deewana Tha was based on) had a better story and acting. But I still think EDT was pretty decent for a Bollywood movie.

Unfortunately I missed Agent Vinod and Kahaani in the cinema, but I'm hoping to catch up soon! What did you think of them?

Definitely can't wait for Teri Meri Kahani, especially as it was filmed in several places really close to me! Hoping to catch Vicky Donor this weekend too, plus a couple more from the early 90's in my home collection.

Good choices! I agree, Priyanka was amazing in Fashion, as was Kangna Ranaut. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Kangna in Krrish 3 and Shootout At Wadala as I think she's a really underrated actress!

I haven't seen many films starring Urmila Matondkar or Juhi Chawla. Will hopefully catch up on some more of them and report back soon.

The hindi version was a huge flop at the box office. Perhaps if they had actors who could actually act it would have been better. I don't care where actors are from, if they can't act then they shouldn't expect people to watch their films - e.g. Nargis Fakri who got laughed at after Rockstar.
I found Ekk Dewaana Tha very 'flat' ... like there were no ups and downs, it was just ... flat, and very dull.

AV was quite good, but I loved Kahaani - real proper acting for once.

Lol fair enough, they aren't "leading" Bollywood actors but they have still made their presence felt. In a time when we have several Bollywood actresses hailing from the UK and USA (e.g. Katrina Kaif, Hazel Keech, Amy Jackson, Nargis Fakhri, Sunny Leone), regardless of whether they speak Hindi or not - where are all the British/American Bollywood males? No male actor from the West has reached the levels of success that Katrina is currently enjoying... :s-smilie:

You saw Upen in his car?! That must have been pretty exciting! A couple of years ago though... it's still been 3 years since we've seen anything from him! I forgot to mention that he hasn't made any interviews with the media for the last few years either, so everything points to him dropping out of the industry - which cannot be true.

None of them are good actors in my view, so I don't really watch their stuff - those actresses are there just to look nice and add some glam. Katrina was lucky mainly due to Salman, and also because she just happened to get the right kind of films.
I think if we had males from the west going there then I think they would also be the type who just look good but can't act, which is a shame. And lol Upen cannot act at all either.

You make a good point - actors and actresses really should prove their worth before being given glamorous debuts, instead of being drawn straight from modelling and (in Sunny Leone's case), porn. But then that raises the question of how actresses like Amy Jackson will inevitably become successful despite their shortfalls.

Speaking of Nargis Fakhri, she acknowledges that her performance in Rockstar wasn't appreciated (rightly so!) and that Ranbir got all the awards (which he deserves). But I've literally just read news that she's got leading roles in Krrish 3 with Hrithik Roshan and Khiladi 786 with Akshay Kumar. I don't see why she should get these roles when there are several other actresses with much more talent just waiting to score amazing opportunities like these, which Nargis may (unfortunately) end up ruining if her performance in Rockstar is anything to go by. :s-smilie:

I don't mind Sunny Leone being a pornstar, but I'm worried that young girls might start to think it's a good idea to go into porn in order to become famous and work in films... :s-smilie:

I don't think Amy will do well - I don't want to sound mean but she doesn't doesn't seem like the 'type'.

If Nargis is in those films then I'm pretty positive that they won't give her much to say. They take girls like this to just look good, so the actual credit for performances and the general focus is on the male leads, which is why people agree to work with actresses like Nagis. She totally ruined Rockstar for me, so I reckon directors won't give her much to do except dance around a bit
No one recognises them as actual 'actors' to be honest.

I suppose if we had male actors from the west playing roles in Bollywood, they would have to be pretty exceptional to match the talent of the current leading actors (i.e. the 5 Khan's, Akshay, Ajay, Shahid, Ranbir etc). True, a lot of it is down to luck and being in the right place at the right time, as opposed to talent. But I believe that females from the west may reach higher levels of success in Bollywood than males just because they seem to have a much larger fan following in India than males. Part of me wonders why the critics have called Katrina a "lucky charm" when they have never given such a generous comment to much more talented actors...

Lol... who hasn't heard of Devdas?! Asking a Bollywood obsessive like me if I've heard of Devdas is like asking a student if they've heard of alcohol!

In all seriousness though, it really is an amazing film. Shah Rukh Khan might not release as many films as Salman or Akshay, but Devdas is definitely one of his masterpieces.
