What happens if Charles dies before the Queen?

Genuine curiosity,

does it go to Andrew and subsequently Beatrice?

Or just skip to William?

It goes to the second in line to the throne.

It goes to the second in line to the throne.

So that would be Andrew, as the eldest surviving son?

It stays with William. Charles is heir, with his successors coming next. Andrew wouldn't come in unless Charles, William and Harry popped it [and none of them had produced another heir in the meantime].

William will become King, Kate Middleton will become Queen Consort

The Queen gets the last laugh I presume

Goes to William and his dashing good looks.

If that happens, it will then go to William when the Queen dies.
If he dies without an heir it will go to Harry.
If Harry dies without an heir it will go to Andrew.

It goes to William. See:

Ya, one's Brother is in line to amalgamate succession to one's grandmother's throne.

He will make a stupid King, I remember him saying he will outlaw Nazi fancy dress.

Then it sucks to be him.

The crown would go to William, not Andrew.

I wonder what would have happened if Edward VIII (the Queen's uncle who abdicated) had children. Would they have taken precedence over the current Queen? I guess that if a king abdicates and he has children, the eldest child would get the throne. But what happens if he has children after abdicating?

Ethnic minorities across the globe breathe a sigh of relief as a blow is struck for political correctness everywhere

Andrew would only become King if Charles, William and Harry were to pop their clogs. As this situation is unlikely, if Charles dies before his mother then William would become King.

Correct me if I'm wrong :s-smilie:

When he abdicated he signed away any right his children might otherwise have had to the throne. Once he's gone, he's completely gone.
In reply to the OP, William will simply succeed his father as heir apparent.

Wait, Prince Harry is actually called Henry?! Why is he Prince Harry then?

Prince William becomes King and Kate Middleton will become Queen. Simple.

Actually Kate becomes Queen Consort, not an actual queen!

In the same way that Prince Charles wouldn't be called King Charles, Prince Harry is just a given name, not his 'royal' name.
