I think the main moral of the story here is that bus fares these days are ridiculous and unaffordable. More subsidies are needed from government to help protect members of society who rely on public transport.

Edit - Thanks for the neg, whatever sad act is up at 5.39am reading online forums!

I didn't neg you but it might've been because they, like me, might've thought that actually a better moral of the story would've been "don't rape people" or "20p isn't that much, don't be such a bloody tightwad".

Poor girl :frown: Even more tragic that her mum was the one to discover her all unrecognisably battered :s-smilie:

The bus fare thing is the kind of situation though where ordinarily militant feminists (feminazis) would bark at you for suggesting that a young lady should be 'llowed the 20p late at night, or that someone should've done the chivalrous thing, stepped up and offered to pay the excess..

I suppose incidents like this should focus the minds of vulnerable young people (be they male or female), when it comes to having solid plans (and sufficient funds) for late night journeys, and preferably not traveling home alone/ideally having an escort

For some reason all the replies are now being geared to the above bold text.
Awful story.

As for the bus driver, obviously it is the rapist to blame. You could have thought though, seeing as it was the last bus that the driver could have been more reasonable, or another passenger could have stepped up.

Well obviously I wouldn't want to detract from the seriousness of rape in this case, but public transport in the UK generally is far more expensive than other European countries, such as Germany, France or Italy, and a whole range of social issues (from personal safety at night through to the unemployed being able to access employment opportunities) would be alleviated by better services and affordability.
digusting crime, hope he gets a life.

No it's a completely fair point and I absolutely agree, I think the reason you got negged may have been because you said it was the main moral though
The title of this thread has been changed to excise the "mother****er" bit of it, but "sick nasty rapist" seems rather a pleonasm and could be read as allowing that there are some rapists who are neither of sick or nasty while this chap is both.

This is really sad :frown:

I wont try deflecting the blame to anyone as it solely the fault of the rapist. The bus driver was just doing his job, its quite likely he works night shifts and this probably wasn't the first time he's had to turn down drunk/tipsy/sober people because they didn't pay up. You can't blame the passengers for not lending the money either, how were they to know what was going to happen? if they did, im sure any half decent human being would pay up. Also, it is likely they didn't know how much she needed or just generally what's going on, it was 3am they were most likely intoxicated, and whos to say they had that money? maybe they just rely on their bus pass or they just didnt want to draw attention to themselves. It's not the girls fault either, ideally her worst case scenario should have been having to walk the distance home on a dark night, in a pair of high heels or whatever she was wearing.. not be raped. So she isn't to "blame", but she really should have taken more money with her and if she couldnt afford it - not gone out that night. But then again, theres always instances once in a blue moon that you lose your purse etc.. this is why - girls as trashy as it is, pop a fiver/tenner into your bra before a night out! just incase push comes to shove, though its not classy putting your hand down your top at least you have a way home!

FFS it was 20p that she was short of the bus driver could have just her on the bus paying £4.80 and she would have avoided that horrific ordeal
My friend told me about this.
