Okay thanks, good idea- my supervisor is my history teacher, so he pointed me in the direction of some good books which should help. Just wondered how best to approach the internet. :smile:

Oh um maybe you could look at some published papers by university lectures (if you could find some) on a similar/relevant topic

I did for mine which was based on
"did the events on 9/11 cause a liberal demise and rise if the far right in Europe".

Unfortunately I never finished it as the files which had it and research corrupted with nit long left and I was stupid and had no back up files

Your supervisor is your history teacher, and you're doing it on history?! ´ A`;

My school so cruel, our coordinator is deliberately pairing us with supervisors who will have no idea about the subject we are doing.
Which is nuts because the topic/objective I want to do is confusing to me, the person who wants to do it, so they won't have a freaking clue either lol. .__.;
(I'm aiming for Computer Science in Uni, so so far am thinking of producing an artefact on the computer (some kind of software?) which will require someone who knows about what I want to do to weigh up whether whatever final objective/title I come up with is reasonable...)

Also I need to ask my schools IT teachers a million and one things; I'm pretty sure already I'll be in contact with them more than any clueless supervisor. o_o;

My school decided that you can have any teacher you like as your supervisor- and they discourage you from having a teacher who knows nothing about the subject, just because they feel that's not completely productive. Although, I didn't just ask my history teacher because he was able to recommend where to start, but he's actually one of the best overall teachers in the school too, so I was very lucky to grab him before someone else did!
Good luck with yours, I think it makes perfect sense for you to be with your IT teacher, surely!

Nit trying to be annoying, but it seems like doing a topic you know nothing about is a bit risky? But as long as you have the time to research, all those sound very interesting.

Yeah I see what you mean, I think the comparison to athens one might be the best bet, considering I already know a bit about athens. Thanks :smile:
Hi,

I want to do an Extended Project Qualification and I wanted to know if you all had some interesting ideas for a 5000 word essay on a Law/Economics related topic?

Any ideas and suggestions will be much appreciated!:colondollar:

I'm doing an EPQ about Sport. I want to centre it mainly around the Olympics 2012, but I am open to other ideas (I specialise in football but have good all round knowledge of sport)

Any question ideas?
I would like to my EPQ combined in Law and English Literature, and was thinking for linking to the portrayal of women in society in literature in comparison to the actual changes in the law, i.e specifically to acts of parliament and reforms. However I don't know how to narrow my research down, as there are so many avenues to go down (crime, international law, property, employment, legal processing, legal profession, jurisprudence, sexuality and family law) + I would have to link it to pieces of literature which I havent even researched or read yet, and I dont know how to start it. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!
THANK YOU!!

Hi,
Bit of a generic problem. I still can't decide on exact topic of my EPQ and my supervisor is not exactly helpful (ie, at all :s-smilie:). I want to do something about automation/cybernetics/robotics and its applications? Also could involve programming and computers. I can't imagine how big a 5000-word essay is and therefore can't decide on degree of narrowness of the topic. Bluh.
Any help appreciated! :smile:
Hello! I just posted here http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?p=38110348&highlight=anthropology%20epq

Basically I'm having the same problem of not knowing what title/topic to choose. I know I want to study Anthropology at uni, but I haven't done it before so I'm not sure where to start. Any current/past Anthropology students that can suggest ideas would be of great help! :redface:
Does the title have to be a question?

so Ive put my name down to do a EPQ and I know I want to revolve it around history but I'm really unsure of how to word the question/title.

Some ideas ive had:

Nuremeberg Trials
Cuban missile crisis
Reformation in England
Renaissance

Any help would be appreciated!

We've been told no, it can be a statement that you go onto discuss for example: "To what extent does ... affect ... in the aging population."

What one of my friends did was look at fashion through the past 60 years or so-although hers was more of an essay. But, an idea of what you could do is make a portfolio and gather research and images from eras and fashion, then the final page of the era could be your own design (including fabrics etc.) using references from that era. If you did that from say the 40's to present day, and then you could look to the future and design something that would set future trends.

Or, if you want to do your own idea from your message, then take photos of each stage, include all drawings/mind maps/images in your process, but THAT into a sketchbook of some sort-labelling everything to say what significance it had in creating your final piece. Just remember, making a dress will be a long process, so leave a lot of time to do a great job!

That's completely ridiculous. Compromising your results and education for some wooly principple that barely makes sense.

Anyway, I am going to do mine of the medicinal techniques for Alzheimer's and maybe compare the physical medicine to EIT (early intervention therapy) and the less traditional aids.

Hey, I'm currently doing my AS's at the moment but am thinking about doing an extended project next year and want to apply for medicine. Would it be better to do the extended project for a medically related topic or do a completely different topic e.g. art based to show that I have other interests outside of medicine?

Also, for anyone who may have done the extended project already, does it help you get an offer and do they ask about it at interviews if you have done one?

Thank you!
Hey I did extended project (epq) last year! it can be quite long to do depending on what subject you pick but its definitely worth it.

I did something related to malaria and drugs since i want to do pharmacy, and then i wrote in on my personal statement and when i had interviews i was asked quite a few times about what i learnt in my epq, so it is helpful to do a topic in your chosen course at uni :biggrin:

you wouldnt have to pick something completely medical related it could have a link, mine was more to do with genetically engineering mosquitos and i wrote about how they could be classed as pharmaceuticals (y)
