I'm looking for a new laptop. Is there any online vendor where I can buy a notebook without os and save money for Windows license?
I'm a GNU/Linux user.

Can anybody recommend me a reasonably priced PSU for a system with an I5 3570k processor and a GTX580 graphics card in it. Cheers

I've heard the new IB go to higher temperatures than the SB CPUs when being overclocked?

Yeah, intel changed the TIM they use to cut costs and it really shows.
Nothing too drastic though unless you're doing some serious OC'ing.

What do you class as reasonable?

The PSU is one of the most important parts, wouldn't want a sub-standard one to blow and take your m'board with it.

This one is good, I've used it before:

Can anyone recommend a low budget tablet? <£150? A sharp screen is my main priority, high res etc... Sorry, don't know much about these things

that sounds a bit funny to me :s-smilie:

Okay so i3 processor (about £75), I'm looking at this monitor: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-ls20b300ns-20-led-monitor-12593024-pdt.html (£95) - I'm gonna stick with just the one for now and decide later on a second - , mouse and keyboard £12, 500Gb hard drive say £50, looking at around 10 GB of ram.... could you recommend some parts and help with the rest?

http://www.ebuyer.com/260589-samsung-syncmaster-s20a300n-lcd-led-20-ls20a300ns-en it's £67 from ebuyer.

So 2 of those with mouse and keyboard is £149, so £351.

Indeed, yeah I won't be OC'ing until I need to in any case, so it won't matter for me until later on.
Hey all, I'm back with a bit more knowledge and I'm looking at this build atm for £1448. I want to get it down £100-200 if possible but don't want to forfeit anything!

I want an SSD drive, 24" monitor, half decent speakers. Perhaps the processor, motherboard, RAM or graphics card can be reduced? Or will it have a big impact? If so I'd rather spend the extra. I just want good bang for buck but not too overkill.

You getting this from pcspecialist?

If you are, and you got your own Windows DVD OS at home, why not build it?

1. Don't have the OS CD.
2. I want to purchase on finance.
3. I haven't got the time to build it manually.

edit: oh and yes from pcspecialist, I got recommended it a lot. Just getting a bit carried away with the price!

Oh that's why, pcspecialist is ok, but it would have been better if you had your own money, building takes an hour so, and is so much cheaper.

To be fair you are missing some things like the 1600mHZ ram instead.

You shouldn't change the motherboard otherwise you can't get a future sli.

You could get the cheaper hdd, not get the ssd. You could get one later on when you save up.
Is a 500 watt 17 amps on each 12v+ rail enough for a 6870?

500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for AMD CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)

Didn't notice the ram! Thought it was that, wooot!

All you ever do is go on about buying separate components and building yourself. I need advice on a PC build not what to do with my time and money!

I may aswell buy the SSD now since I have 12 months to pay it off, I go on a nice holiday in November with the girlfriend so it'd leave me 1.5 grand extra on the holiday, that's just one reason.... do... you... under.... stand... why... I.... want.... finance.... and.... not... build.... it.... myself.

P.S. Can I manage with a 650w power supply? I honestly don't know anything about the power supply.... I just randomly picked one.

1600mHZ is the standard on custom build ones.

Sorry, but it's what you get here looool we have convinced people to build themselves you know
obviously it's different in your case, I can't suggest anything you could go without to be honest, especially as your going on finance.

Yeah I do, make sure you get the right package so you dont have to pay back too much.

650watt from a good maker will do the job, the GTX 670 needs minimum 500watt, so having 650watt will allow sli in the future.

If you aren't into building it yourself, I'd say you could save money on the Mobo, Let's be honest how likely are you to SLI? Your 670 will last a couple of years at which point you could probably just get a next gen. You can probably save around £50 if you get a V-LX

Corsair Vengeance in a heartbeat. Low profile if possible.

The Steelseries are highly recommended, but if you want cheaper alternatives look at the Corsair K60, Razer Blackwidow or Coolermaster.
These are marketed as gaming keyboards which is why I didn't mention them.

If you want mechanical boards be prepared to pay over £50.
For non-mechanical I would suggest looking at the Microsoft Sidewinder X4.

I don't know a great deal about monitors but this was popular a few hours ago on HotUKDeals: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005JRIPC4/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0CPB5KQJ185W4YCF9P1Z&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=317828027&pf_rd_i=468294

I forgot to thank you for the info

I spent all day today on Overclockers on the mech keyboard thread!

Right now I'm leaning towards the Qpad MK-50, about 65 quid.
Cherry red switches.

Have you ever used the cherry reds? The only thing that put me off the steelseries was the negative attitude towards the cherry blacks
