Hi quick question
are people in catered halls bringing any pans/cooking utensils with them? I know i'll be catered for everyday but I'm thinking of those random times when I feel like making something, but then I don't want to bring loads for it never to be used?

I'm catered too- obviously we don't get Lunch. Now, I know that catered flats do have a little baby kitchen, so I'm going to bring the basic basics- probably:

saucepan
frying pan
sieve
plates (x3)
bowls (x3)
Cutlery set
Tea towel
wooden spoon
lots and lots of super noodles chicken flavour!

I didn't put Mary Gee Houses as one of my choices and I was accepted there. Is Mary Gee Houses really that bad? How many rooms are there on a floor? How many people share a toilet/kitchen?

I'm in the same boat, and so are alot of others, but everyone seems really nice there! Theres 10 people in the house, with a toilet and a shower room on the bottom floor, kitchen and laundry on the middle floor, and a toilet and a shower on the top floor. 4 people on the top, 2 in the middle, 4 on the bottom.
What block are you in =] ?

Hmm Mary Gee is a lot cheaper than the Grange, every one I've talked to seems awesome. There aren't many pictures of the rooms at MG, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78tJLrQcv0A are the only ones I can find.
Ok, so you'll be sharing a bathroom, if that's a real problem for you, take a look at the grange? If your just a bit 'errrm' about it, I say go for it and If you really hate it when you get there, apply for a room transfer?
Good luck with choosing!

Its often a mix. In my 2nd year I lived with another 2nd year (my best friend- I reqested to live with her in The Beeches) and the rest were 1st years who had taken a gap year. In my 3rd year I lived with another 3rd year girl, a 2nd year girl (who had stayed on from the year before). The rest were 1st years. It was wonderful socially in the 2nd year- I couldn't have asked for a better time. In 3rd year it was a bit different and I didn't really mix with the boys downstairs much and neither did the other girls. That could have partly been because of us being 3rd years and having more work and pressure etc to do, I'm not sure, or maybe I was just exceptionally lucky with a great group of guys in my 2nd year. I wouldn't worry about it not being in a block at all. After all, in the main JoFo pavillions, people only tend to socialise with their small flat of about 5/6 people from what I've heard.

Room 12 is a decent size- I don't have any pictures at all of that room, sorry. The only annoying thing about it is its a bit of an awkward shape- quite long and narrow but its nice enough. Its next to the bathroom and opposite the kitchen.

Does room 12 have a washbasin like yours? and are there only 3 rooms on the second floor? Just wondering if there could possibly be more girls on that floor. Thanks for you help! much appreciated

ah cheers! Just went to look at accommodation around the Uni today. Honestly when people say UoL Is a long walk from Filbert, it really is not. When i went there today too i was told that alot more UoL Students have been coming in to book. I was put into a flat with 3 other UoL students so its not that bad i suppose.

Yeah, all the rooms have a sink.

No, just three girls. Technically there is another spare room next to yours but its not occupied by anyone. When I was there it had a large table and chairs in. Nobody really used it that much- during exam period I overtook it as my 'office' and spent all day revising in there.

On the 1st floor (2nd floor to you in the US  ) there is also the subwarden's room who is in charge of the house. No idea if it will be the same guy as I had- he's a 5th medic called James if he is.

ahh yeah im beginning realize all the different words we have for different things :colondollar: So do we pretty much live with the subwarden (share a kitchen, bathroom ect.)? just curious haha and my last question is did you have a tv in your room? pretty much everyone does at uni in the US but i didnt know if it was common there. thanks again!

Hi can anyone help me out. I've applied for accommodation three times now requesting rooms in Oadby, self-catered and mostly standard however each time i have been offered Nixon Court, firstly the most expensive room type and then premium single rooms. I have received an email advising me to accept this offer as the other rooms probably aren't available. However this is not only slightly more expensive that I feel I can afford but I really wanted to be in Oadby at least for my first year. Any advise on anything I can do/if it's worth calling the uni? thanks
