Still haven't seen Inception.

Go see it. I implore you.
Nostalgia for the Light is a beautiful documentary film. So glad I caught the recommendation from a user in another thread.

:p: Did you like it? Have you seen Metropolis? M has been on my list for a while now. :colondollar:

Yeah, I thought it was pretty good. It cleans up really well if you watch the Blu Ray release - I was amazed by how good it looked. Can't remember watching Metropolis fully, although I've certainly seen bits of it.

Has anyone seen Cannibal Holocaust? Found an old VHS of it and want to see it but don't know if it's any good.

It goes on for a very long time without much happening and it looks very dated. To be honest I found reading the Wikipedia page afterwards to be more interesting - I didn't like the film that much but every aspect of the story surrounding it is fascinating.

Also, rumours are emanating that the Church of Scientology is planning some sort of a publicity drive against The Master. :holmes:
I'm surprised Scientology let it go this far tbh.

Word is that Tom Cruise had a bit of a sulk at Paul Thomas Anderson after he saw this. :p:
Thinking of watching Ip Man.

Well, it was really good. Terrific fight choreography, especially the part where he takes on 10 guys in an attempt to vent his anger. My only complaint is that there was no real sense that he was ever going to lose any fight, he just kicked ass throughout the film and that made the fights play out in the typical fashion. On another note, watching this and The Raid: Redemption earlier this year, and Ong-Bak and the Bourne films in previous years, has made me realise that I really dislike the choreography in the 'other category' of martial arts films: Hero, House of Flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. You know the ones who subscribe to heavy spiritual themes, where they fly around and wave swords at each other as if they are nothing more than branches. The most ridiculous sequence was the whole mind battle in Hero. :colonhash:

Wizard of Oz is from 1939. Didn't quite realise it was that old. :eek3:

Finally watched L'Atalante yesterday, wonderful little film; the cinematography is quite staggering when you consider it was made in 1934! I think my favourite piece of film by Vigo remains A Propos de Nice, though!

And as it's the movie of the moment, I thought it might be worth mentioning that Dredd currently has a Metascore of 69 from six reviews. 69 is a pretty decent score for a blockbuster. :yep:

On this note, it may also interest people that a new earliest piece of colour film ever has been found - from 1901/02. :eek3:

I actually agree, it is not my style, but the parkour is pretty amazing in Ong Bak! Easily one of my favourite scenes.

I love that film, anyone know whatever happened to Tony Jaa? I saw Ong Bak and heard of its two sequels (though opinion wards me away from them). Thought he was going to be quite big at the time, shame there hasn't been a breakthough.

The highest I got was 3, and I had to go back to ****ing Douglas Fairbanks.

Edit:

5 now. But I literally had to go back to the first narrative film. Justus D. Barnes from The Great Train Robbery :indiff:

Just finished watching Black Hawk Down for the first time. I feel strangely cold but very sad after watching it. I have never really had a long term emotional impact from a film but this has left me dazed for around 15 minutes now. The horror of it and the pointlessness hit me in a way it never would or could have when I was ~18. It is a strange feeling and has made me feel actually physically ill
