And thankyou for looking!

Wasn't looking, I went to Durham. One of my friends did German and Maths.

Don't let the website put you off. Durham is awesome

Archbishop Arthur Roche left Leeds Diocese last week to take up his new role in Rome.

Quite a few sees vacant at the moment plus our bishop, (Hallam) turns 76 in five weeks.

Thanks for keeping us updated I didn't know he'd left!

never really posted in here

just had a bit of a weird experience today - my friend (who is also catholic) asked somebody from the christian union something about where the catholic church was in StA, and the people from the union laughed (kind of like, snootily?) and mentioned something about catholics not really being in the christian union. i dunno, i thought it was weird. i've always considered myself catholic but always christian as well - i've never really experienced this kinda thing. i thought it was a bit odd that there was a separate catholic society... :s-smilie:

sorry about the random question but what is St Andrew's like!!!! please

a lot of Christians don't like us whether it be because of Mary, the pope, contraception, gay marriage, saints etc:frown:

My general understanding of CUs is that they are largely Protestant. Not entirely sure why, since we're clearly Christians too. It's sad that there is such segregation. At my undergrad uni, there was a lot of snobbery about who was "Christian" and who wasn't and people from the CU didn't wanna even talk to me about my/their faith, coz I'm Catholic and they weren't  Very, very odd and not very Christian at all, tbh.

That said, I do think there is a need for a separate Cath Soc at most unis, otherwise all the Protestants (perhaps the Orthodox too) would get sick of us banging on about Mary and the saints :p:

Welcome, btw
smile[/excludedFace];39827230]it's just weird  cause all of the other branches of christianity seem to meet at the CU, and then the catholics are all off in their own corner. it wasnt even about catholicism, it was a simple 'do you know where this is?' question!

feel a bit sad tbh, cause i was going to start going to the meetings with a couple friends, cause they seem to be really fun evenings, but now i cant really :/ i guess when you come from 4-18 years catholic education, where all your friends and family are the same religion, you dont really encounter much like this

:h: feel a bit like a sore thumb here though, cause im not the worlds most conscientious catholic :colondollar: over the past year i have felt my faith and general interest in the subject increase, but every now and then i still need the occassional poke and prod to remind me :erm:

I struggle with faith too, we're just a hospital for sinners.

Original post by The_Lonely_Goatherd
I don't think they can actively turn you away. You might just find yourself getting stared at a bit and being the "outsider". That said, I could be completely wrong. I actively avoided my uni's CU, so don't have much experience of them, other than the initial obvious prejudice towards me. (Well either that or they thought I could out-Bible quote them, having gone to a convent school :colone: )

I think a lot of us have that problem of coming from a very Catholic-oriented education and then finding ourselves as somewhat outcast among our fellow Christians :console:

LOL:biggrin:

Oh hun, believe me, you are more than welcome here! FYI:

- I rarely go to church
- As such, I still say the old responses during Mass
- I'm terribly irreverant and am always poking fun at the Church

So you can see I'm not a particularly conscientious Catholic either! :five: :nah: :jebus: (Oh yeah, that's the other thing. I like the :jebus: smiley FAR too much  ) Everyone needs prodding from time to time and this little community is all about helping each other on our spiritual paths

:hugs:

well you can't help a phobia i guess

What's that saying about 'all roads lead to Rome' actually about?
smile[/excludedFace];39827377]i dont think they'd turn me away either, i just dont really want to go somewhere where i know about the general feelings towards catholics arent rosey  wooo i went to a convent school to  no nuns though, sadly!

yeah, all my school weren't just 'ohh, we're catholic' they were like, in your face, religion in every corner of your life, religious. we had to say prayers before all our lessons, and all that jazz! so it's weird coming from that environment to this one.

i was quite good at going to church when i was at home, cause i had one that fitted perfectly into my routine, and stuff, but here, well, i have yet to find where it is :colondollar: doesnt your church give out those little cards with the new responses on? i kept forgetting to read them, and as such, was the victim of accusatory looks from my little brother every time i got it wrong
smile[/excludedFace];39833312]:five:

My mum has told me so little (she went to a convent school) i thought a convent school was defined as being a catholic school run by nuns!

awww, i think mine's still going (although i have yet to go back and check!) - however they have completely changed the uniform and now it looks dreadful  plus, i have heard that the new headmistress (the old one left when i did) is horrible and has imposed even more silly rules than there were last time

we didn't have any nuns, but we did used to be quite a large convent back in the day

like, i know what street it's on, but i have no idea where that street is :colondollar: might have to spend some time just wandering around the area to find out where it is  apparently it's really old fashioned though, and they say mass in latin every second week, which i think will be a bit of a culture shock, seeing as the church i'm coming from is actually quite modern and laid back (quite uncharacteristic of the catholic church!)

i always say 'and also with you' :sigh: i feel more sorry for the elderly people of the church though, because they must find the change harder to adapt to than the younger people

I'd love to go to a latin mass one day...

Original post by The_Lonely_Goatherd
Oh no. That's such a shame that you've got a horrible headmistress now. It's amazing the impact a single person can have on a school, isn't it? :sadnod: What's the uniform like? Mine was brown. With a lime green tie :lolwut:

my headteacher's a bit of a liar said he wasn't changing the school uniform one or two years ago and now its all changed (but they do look smarter i guess) and now he wants become an ordinary high school, eliminating the middle schools.

Ah I see :beard: Crystal paperweight with an angel sounds lovely. I always worry though whether people will think I'm a religious nut and go off me if I show people religious things. I think that's just coz my sister told me I shouldn't wear my rosary bracelet to interview though :lolwut: I get so easily paranoid about these kinda things :colondollar:

What other ideas did you have?

all the kids these days :biggrin:are wearing saints bracelets and rosary beads though aren't they?

Original post by Aula
Incredibly awesome.

Yeah, that's why I'm not sure about it. But actually most of my ideas were more related to non-religious type things. The angel looks a bit like she's dancing, and I love dancing; angels sing and I was given it when I left choir; it's clear, but there's a lot to it etc.
Umm... I didn't really have any yet :dontknow:

sounds like a good idea to me:dontknow: i haven't done many interviews:smile:

This sounds like a great idea not sure how big a section of the CCC they send you each day though.

sorry about the sloppy typing.

last things before i forget i asked for prayers after some vandalism at one of the churches in the parish, and a couple of weeks later they found the person who did it.

and the doctor's went well thankyou:smile:

Yeah. So annoying. I was doing it before it became fashionable! :colonhash:
HAPPY YEAR OF FAITH! :woo:   :yeah: :woo:

Wishing you all a blessed "year" :h:

Now that I've remembered, I need to try and remember to go to church for 6pm. Think it's rosary and benediction, followed by Mass

Memo to self, if you go to a talk in a parish, expect to be the youngest by far. If you speak in tge questions/discussion bit expect to get mobbed afterwards...
On the plus side yesterday seems to have conspired to let me know just in time that the first confirmation meeting is this evening!

Oh, just surrounded by older people talking about how exciting it was to have a young person there and suggesting things that could happen.

And now I seem to be running/at least preparing two sessions for the confirmation series. Not quite sure how this has happened...

 I'm sure you'll be great at it. I volunteered for my school's parish's confirmation classes at the start of this year (they only do a 3 month preparation course) and it was quite good fun! Given the other helpers were much older, I think the kids quite liked having someone young-looking up at the front :yep:

Yes, I was meaning to post about this. Saw a photo on my Facebook newsfeed. So sad :frown:

I'm going on a mini pilgrimage tomorrow to Faversham, Kent, to celebrate (a bit early?) the feast of St Jude. Would appreciate prayers, since it's my first time going to a UK church since my blessing in Sri Lanka. I know I should stop being a Doubting Thomas and have faith but I'm not very good at trusting in the Lord :colondollar:
Today went fine. I was actually able to pray better than I have done in years :woo: Prayed for all of you and still praying for the people of Lourdes. I gather from Facebook the situation is a little better today but we must keep them in our intentions :sadnod:

Praise the Lord for the intercession of St Jude :jebus:

Since the church is also called Our Lady of Carmel, as well as St Jude's, there were lots of things to do with St Therese of Lisieux. I bought a statue and a medal, which has a funny dot in it, like a piece of cloth? Wondering if it's a relic?! Didn't manage to grab hold of the priest to ask

This post is all excellent and makes me very happy.

I'm going to be in Norwich tomorrow, and am planning to have a wonder round and see what the place is like. Despite the fact that I've known I was going for a few weeks, it has literally only just twigged that Norwich is where Julian of Norwich was, and where her shrine will be.
Still, means I can go there

Hello everyone,

So I would like you to offer your prayers for this intention on a regular basis, whether that is through posting about it on here, or just in your private, daily prayer life.

Thanks and love,

Happy night of light all! www.nightoflight.org

I currently have a candle and my (okay, technically my sister's) Mary watching out over the world from my window. I just wish I could feel safe about leaving my candle burning until it burns out tonight. I mean it's pretty safe, but I'm not too sure. Mary will definitely stay there though.
