Official OCR- AS Chemistry F321 January 2013 (revision, questions)

Hia everyone,

This thread is dedicated to Chemistry exam in January 2013.
Jump in, discuss or ask questions. From time to time I will be adding my REVISION RESOURCES .

So to start off (some great tips):

1. Learn all the DEFINITIONS by heart <3

2. Practice past papers

3. make sure you give yourself breaks

4. last but not the least, practice calculation questions and learn formulas

PAST PAPERS:

http://www.ocr.org.uk/i-want-to/prepare-and-practice/past-papers-finder/

subject:science
type:AS/A Level GCE
Qualification: Chemistry A- H034, H434
Session (optional): for you to choose:smile:

Some GREAT WEbsites:

1. http://www.s-cool.co.uk/a-level/chemistry

selective stuff you need to know

2. http://www.docbrown.info/page19/OCRchemistryAS.htm

look under the grey title:

''Summary of OCR GCE Advanced Subsidiary Chemistry AS Units and Contents Links''

''Unit F321: Atoms, Bonds and Groups''

3. http://www.a-levelchemistry.co.uk/OCR%20Chemistry%20A/Unit%201/Unit%201%20resources.html

good stuff here too

4. http://www.creative-chemistry.org.uk/alevel/module1/index.htm

some worksheets to work on

5. http://getrevising.co.uk/members/emily1854

You will need to login for this, I just uploaded them today:P

Make sure you go through these for revision to ace your exams :P

That is it for now

Let me know if you need any help and also help me continue this thread

Good Luck

Hi there!
You see, I have a OCR Salters Chemistry AS level question about the coursework we must complete. I've been told it is related to 'Enthalpy Changes' and have been asked to look at the first two experiments in the Developing Fuels booklet (One where we had fuel and a calorimeter involved and the other zinc and a polystyrene cup ).
I'm stressing out about what I have to revise exactly because I've looked back at those experiments and, to be completely honest, I'm kind of stuck as far as preparing for it goes!

If you have any tips or ideas about my experiment, pleeaassseee help!

Also, what sort of things do you think I should revise for the 'written paper' part of the coursework.

-An extremely grateful stress-head.

Hi Fruity, I am sorry but I don't know a single thing about what you are talking (I am doing OCR A), the best person to ask about his would be your TEACHER and your class mates (who I am sure would be doing the same thing). Go and ask them what they are doing and any help because I am sorry but I don't know a single thing about enthalpy change :P

The other thing I had to say was that i did a bit of research for you
and found these:

Again they may or may not help !

http://www.webchem.net/notes/how_far/enthalpy/measurement_of_enthalpy.htm

And as for what you need to know :

1. definitions
2. precautions
3. reactions
4. calculations
5. and other stuff :P (which you have to spot because I don't know about your experiment

I hope this helps

EDIT: I got a really good powerpoint slide
but I don't know how to attach :frown:

I've got my chemistry assessed practical exam tomorrow and i'm doing OCR chemistry A. it's going to be a titration, but do you have any tips of getting the higher grades?

Eeee! sorry if its a bit late :frown:

bUt a few things if you haven't done it yet

1. wash the burette with acid before starting (a really good practice)
2. so as with the pipette
3. perform it really carefully
4. do the calculations carefully too
5. Make sure to keep it swirling
6. wash the rod and beaker used for preparing standard solution into the flask so you don't loose any of the products

Hope this helps and here a are a few links worth watching before the task !

Awww! Thank you! Haha - no, it really did help! Oh no - Powerpoint! Would the attachment sign thingymawotsit work!? Another thing is I know you do OCR, but just incase there is some overlap, how would you prepare for ISA type (experiment) questions? You know the whole reliability-validity stuff  Cheers a million! xxxx

Aw this is the perfect thread, you're beautiful for creating it. I'm bad at the calculations for the titrations, do we have to find the concentration, water of crystallisation or relative mass of the solution? I get so confused, help!

arghhh I just wrote a comprehensive answer but accidentally closed it
Anyway,

1. the will tell you what to do like find moles , find the conc. in step by step order however you need to learn the formulas

2. Even if your results are wrong you would be awarded marks for using the correct formula and method

3. I have my task as a hard copy :frown: This not what we got but this is also a specimen

Titration practical

btw when is your task mine is next week

P.S i'm sorry, couldn't elaborate it much!

Hope this helps

1. Qualitative is titration

2. Quantitative is about 4 solution or whatever

3. EValuative i don't know yet :P

Yes and each band has 3 tests you could do, depending on how well you do your first ones you may or may not have to do the second tests from each bands.
