Higher Maths 2012-2013 : Discussion and Help Thread

For students studying Higher Mathematics, this thread should serve you well as your prelims will be just after January and your exams will soon be looming - believe me, they're over and done with in the blink of an eye.

Ask questions, discuss topics, problems etc.
And hopefully come out the end with the grade you deserve.

Past Papers can be found on the SQA website:

It took me about 5 minutes to read what it said in yellow.

I'll change the yellow just now.

After exams, I might add a poll to this thread entitled,
"Has this thread improved your grade?"

Thanks a lot for taking the time to make this thread; I can tell the older past papers will come in handy near exam time, especially considering they have full solutions. It can be annoying when you're unsure as to where you went wrong and all the SQA Answer Section provides is a single answer!

I managed to come across an excellent online resource set-up for the Higher course, available here. The website provides thorough preparation for prelims and exams, with five practice prelims, over two hundred multiple choice questions and further revision material for specific topics. (Jesus, I sound as if I've been hired to advertise the site...)

You're welcome.
Is it password protected? I noticed the Advanced Higher was.

Took my guidance teacher long enough to write her reference that it only got sent on the 11th! Wasn't so happy! So nope, not heard anything? What about yours:smile:? Get an interview at Cambridge ;D?

I did, it went fine.
However, I made the drastic mistake of applying to a college in which there are more TSR applicants than there are places - hence I can see a gap year on the agenda!
Where are you hoping to go?
Also, what clubs do you run at your school as I've started up a higher maths help club, to hopefully help the students who want to work their asses off, get that grade that'll get them to uni.

Oh good ! Ooh which college like ? Pembroke by any chance? That's the one I wanted to apply to ...! Right now I have no idea, don't think my parents want me to be paying the fees, so I'm looking into St. Andrews atm!

I actually don't run any clubs maths related at my school, I usually just help my advanced higher class in free periods, make sure they're keeping up!:P although I have been thinking about a higher maths club.. So well see!

I'm thinking of starting an AH maths supported study - might start it off as just a homework club and then it'll probably snowball from there.
Pembroke yes! Madness.
Ah, so it's the prestige you're after
Have you seen the place? I've heard it's lovely - my mate's a 3rd year chemist and he adores it there

Yeah, thats what my life has turned into atm haha! Every time I turn a corner I get asked questions :P! Done 3 prelim papers so far for homework and 3times 100% so can't complain:tongue: the course is pretty interesting so far:smile:!

Awww I wanted to apply to Pembroke! Silly school didn't tell me I had to apply by the 15th.. Ah well, parents wouldn't have liked the fees anyway!

I have only seen the pictures, but omg it looks gorgeous.. Would love to study there, but we'll see, might not leave home :P
Subbing, to help out when ever I can. Assuming Reece doesn't beat me every single time that it

After starting Maths this year, I kinda came to the conclusion that I'm not that good at it  so, I'll help out whenever I can  But a hard one... Don't wanna set people off on the wrong tracks
