Examine the ways in which government policies and laws affect the nature and extent of family diversity (24 marks)

any suggestions on how i should answer this and what on earth does it mean by the nature and extent of family diversity>>>?? i never get this bit!! please help thanx in advance ..xxx

You basically have to say how government policies have affected family diversity, for example how the legalisation of homosexuality has contributed to the increase in family diversity, or how the one-child policy introduced in china has reduced family size.
