Belarus is pleased that the IAEA is not concerned with the future of nuclear weapons in the Russian Federation in light of this merger.

OOC: Can the days for discussion be reduced as this is in resolution format, but merely is a statement of intent.
Original post by tehFrance
The Russian Federation questions whether the Polish representative has bothered to look up the benefits of an autonomous republic. Belarus will still be very much the same as it was just better economically and part of the Russian Federation. Why would we wish to expand our empire once again? this is not the intent and if we have to say this once more then we will change our intent and invade Poland if you wish :colonhash:

Poland fully understands both the benefits and the drawbacks of Belarus being an autonomous region of Russia. Whilst Russia is likely correct in saying that the merger will provide economic advantage to Belarus, the same cannot be said for Russia. This has led Poland to question Russia's motives. What exactly is Russia getting out of this?

Poland has kept its discussions on this matter peaceful and we ask why Russia feels the need to resort to threats of violence? Such threats only go to show that Russia is intent on building up its Soviet empire once again.

A far greater work force to contribute to the Russian economy. We do not understand why an allied nation of Belarus, in Poland, would oppose such a merger which is widely desired by the peoples of Belarus and Russia.

Belarus reiterates this has nothing to do with resurrecting a dead and buried Empire that will not, and must not, allowed to be restored.

Poland considers Belarus to be a close friend and neighbour and we would like to maintain our very good relations in the future. As one of the first countries to recognise Belorussian independence, Poland would like to ensure that this merger is not being forced upon Belarus.

In addition, Poland would like to point out that we do not entirely oppose the merger but that we have some concerns. Our support for the merger is conditional on the rights and culture of Poles in Belarus being respected.

As does Belarus to Poland. This merger was architectured by me, the Belarusian representative, on behalf of the instructions of the Belarusian people. Thus it is in no way being forced upon us.

Belarus believes it is fair for Poland to have concerns, and appreciates the voicing of these concerns, in this way Belarus can become a better nation in future. Belarus will absolutely defend the rights of ethnic Poles in the future Belarusian oblast of the Russian Federation.

Poland thanks Belarus for this reassurance and now feels happy enough to support this resolution.

Provided the majority of the Baltic States and the majority of NATO are satisfied, the US will not pursue any action of opposition.

OOC: Do the Baltic states actually have representatives on TSR? Or are the seats empty?

Belarus believes this approach is slightly conformist, why does it matter to the US if other states support this? Surely all that matters is the wills of the Belarusian/Russian people?
Pakistan has no qualms with this resolution, It is just a strengthening of an already strong relationship between Belarus and the Russian Federation.
Belarus appreciates the Pakistani sentiment.

OOC: I think Latvia and Lithuania don't have representatives.

It matters for our allies if they are disatisfied. As a NATO member we have a duty to our fellow country and to make sure they are not threatened by this merger.

The whole point of NATO is to defend not go in all guns blazing, we advise the USA to keep our of Russia Affairs for face international condemnation.

[ooc] Since this resolution was published in 2013, technically it should be 2013/1. A minor point though. [/ooc]

Belarus has an incredibly fragmented and under-equipped military, nor are we a nuclear state and the Kremlin have already said they will remain in control of their arsenal. No NATO member should feel threatened by a merger that is built on economic and cultural principles.

OOC: Any chance the discussion period can be reduced?

Australia concurs with Belarus' call for the discussion period to be reduced, since it understands that this Resolution is simply a statement of intent by Belarus and the Russian Federation.

Australia will be a keeping an eye upon further developments in the Baltic and Slavic regions, and hopes that this is simply the union of two already close peoples, and nothing more.

IC: Britain and NZ are unconcerned with this merger so long as the respective people agree with it in an open and fair referendum, if anything it might even improve Belarus's quality of life...
OC: Since theres little chance of this happening in RL for the time being is it not a bit presumptuous to try this...?

OOC: There have been on/off moves over the last 17 years, its not that presumptuous. Besides, it creates some debate.

Belarus is very happy to hear of the 'support' of Britain and New Zealand, we do believe it is in the best economic interests of the Belarusian people.
