What's the news so far for HSPS seafood? How many have been fished so far?

Hey there! What college were you pooled from (Downing cast me afloat...)

I did hear, second hand, that somebody's been fished by Newnham, and another has an interview at Selwyn. I'm not really sure about the exact figures, though.

As for me, I've heard nothing, but I'm still holding out hope... You?

Hello, I am an English Applicant (Gonville and Caius) who only got the decision letter today, and have been pooled. I dont think its likely that at this late stage anything will come off, but am holding out hope.

Are there any other Caius applicants out there who have received any more news than having been pooled?

DO NOT LOSE HOPE!! Caius have been extremely late with letters, and I also received my pooled letter today from Caius, so I'm pretty certain there is still lots of (good) things to happen
Is it still possible to be given an offer from the college you originally applied to at this stage?
Do all colleges get a look at your file before decisions are made, or are they sorted through in a different way? Sorry if theres an obvious answer, I was curious about how they do it for a while.

I don't think it matters much, but I would guess they would look at the prediction and give 80+ for a D3, 90+ for a D2 and 93+ for a D1, provided the prediction was credible. But they might not and there's not much point worrying about it now. Your best hope is that linguistics might be slightly easier to get into than some other subjects so the grades required to be competitive might be lower than for say Nat Sci.
They don't look at predicted grades to calculate the UMS average.

I suppose you might be right but thought they specifically didn't do it on predicted grades --shame they don't explain this as it's such a mystery! You kids are all amazing putting up with all this tension for days on end and being left in limbo. Surely they can come up with something better than this. The wait continues ....no one has any nails left! And numbers applying for this subject are also strangely increased this year.
That is correct. Cambridge are interested in actual achievements to date, so they would only use A level UMS (as distinct from AS UMS) with applicants who have already got their grades.

Yeah I know the chances are pretty slim, even worse for me as I was pooled from a college that is one of the biggest-fish takers in Cambridge D:

I guess I'm out this year....

Might as well join in with the masochistic fun!!
Applied to Robinson, for Japanese studdies (Asian and middle eastern faculty) and I really thought the interview went well :3

What I'm telling myself, and in fact i've pretty much convinced myself, is that they've only pooled me because they wanted to view the pool's standard, so that they don't miss out any fantastic candidates. But of course they'll call me back, because I'm just marvellous darling

In fact that whole rant is absolutely true!! If I wish it enough It will be!!!

okay just an update on that, st catharine's fished me this morning at 7:30am, which is weird, as its actually an amazing college! Got an interview day after tomorrow, so wish me luck! so glad not to be swimming anymore, but now i have 24 hours of panicking

I applied to queens' so you would have thought being a larger college more people would be fished, mind you bad luck seems to follow me so it's hardly surprising  what subject did you apply for?

i don't know how many got pooled, i only know that they fish about 5 and only one of the people they pool gets fished... i can just hope they only pool one person

Durham and York, UCL and Bristol yet to reply. Not the end of the day if I went to Durham, but its not Cambridge.... Have made such a fetish out of that place.

Wish they would hurry up and tell me where I stand so I can move on.

thankyou! this makes me feel a bit better! But surely it can't be true for everyone still waiting ?
It isn't, unfortunately.

Although relaxing, it doesn't seem true.

Colleges can mark for interview or an offer. An offer can only be made if the file is either unmarked, or has an interview mark. Once an offer mark has been made, no other college can add a mark to it.

Therefore, if you have an offer, they won't be squabbling. Making offers is first come first serve for the colleges.

If you have two interviews, and both want to make offers, they will only do so post-interview, so you will already have heard from them by now to be invited to interview. In this case they either go with "a simple coin toss", or a "prompt meeting" on the Monday following interviews, as per the official guidance to tutors, which Minerva posted in the OP.
Correct.

I'm not sure I entirely follow the logic of what your teacher is saying. The decisions about almost all direct offers have been made by the end of the Pool - the issue is how long colleges take to convey the news, and as we have seen this varies a great deal. As we have also seen, some colleges are quick off the mark (well done King's and Trinity Hall) in letting people know they've been unsuccessful, while others take their own sweet time. So while there is always hope until the fat lady has sung, waiting a long time to hear is not an indicator of either good news or bad news being on its way eventually.

Colleges will negotiate for those applicants who have been called for more than one interview. As I have also said, a (very) small number of people who haven't been called for interview may get offers from their original college, after their re-interviews have been completed. It is also true that another (very) small number of people will get direct offers from other colleges than the one they applied to, if it turns out that the people called for re-interview do not live up to expectation.
