Nice to know I'm not the only one worrying my socks off.
I've applied to Imperial, Newcastle and Sheffield. That means we applied to three of the same universities. Great minds obviously think alike!
I've add an interview at Newcastle and I had an interview at Sheffield in November and received an offer from them yesterday. Haven't heard anything from Imperial

I have a feeling that everyone's worrying hahaha.
That's amazing- what a coincidence! And definitely true. Wow- congrats on the Sheffield offer! I'm still waiting to hear from them. But at least I haven't received a rejection!

Well I applied to Peterhouse for 2013 but was pooled. Then a lady from Jesus College phoned me a few days ago to tell me I had a conditional offer for 2014. Do you think it's still possible for me to start the course in this October?

It was initially a thread for 2013 medics but someone merged it in to the original Medicine thread. We've all been posting stuff about ourselves to get to know each other (like our first name/ fave tv show/ location etc.)

Are you planning to apply to do Medicine?
I know some schools do the Maths A2 in one year if you want to do both Maths and Further to A level as learning it that way round apparently makes more sense?
As long as you're carrying on with some form of Maths so your skills don't get rusty, I honestly don't think it makes a difference. Obviously, I could be wrong as I have no authority to give you any advice, but that's just what I think.
This may be different if you're planning on applying for Maths, but since you're only planning to do further AS, I'd guess not?

can somebody please explain me why some colleges have more applicants to consider? Isnt a college only a place to live and spend free time ? We all receive the same education right? %^^

My other universities were Bristol, Exeter and Sussex. Sussex will most likely be my insurance as it's the only one that asks for AAB.

Yes I know its supposed be one of the top ones but yeh I don't think I'm up to it to live in the middle of London! I'm very much a country girl, I live on a farm you see :smile:

Cambridge is just right though! Theres still grass haha and UCL say they can only provide accomodation for 1st yr..if they're you're firm choice, so sounds alot of fuss!

Some colleges are larger and offer more places, and therefore have more applicants. Also, some colleges are traditionally very popular because of their reputation, or their pretty architecture ( :biggrin:

e.g. Trinity, King's, Emma). Some may offer nicer accommodation, may be close/far from lecture theatres, etc.

In the end, I think it just comes down to personal choice. The education will be the same across the university, but bear in mind that most supervisions will be done in college, so some people choose on the basis that the college has more specialists in their subject.

Well AS doesn't affect A* so long as you get 70% in it. But an A is just 80% average across the whole of the A-Level so a high AS score means you can get a (sometimes very) low A2 score to get the A overall.

If your offer only specifies overall grade requirements then that's all you need to get.

I don't know anything about the CIE A-Level, but I would be surprised if it used the same name and then was different. At the same time you should check.

And to answer your final question, for A-Level in England you need 80% ums overall (whole A-Level) and 90% ums average in your A2 modules.
This means that for an A-Level out of 600, you need 480/600 overall with 270/300 for A2. So the minimum at AS is 210/300 (70% or a B), and any more will not affect your overall chances of getting an A*.
If you get 210 at AS you cannot in fact get an A overall as you would need 90% at A2 to get the 480/600 which would give you an A*, so you end up with either an A* or B.

However do note that it is very rare that someone who gets 210/300 at AS goes on to get 270/300 at A2. If you are struggling to get an A at AS I would not fancy your chances of an A* in the subject.

Hope this is clear for you. Do look up any potential differences in CIE A-Level as I can only speak for the A-Level in England (which may well be the same for these purposes).

I don't think I would've gotten in without my fourth subject, to be honest, as Medicine is such a competitive course, and Cambridge in particular are very selective on your academics and ability to cope with a large workload. I was really surprised when some of my friends got into NatSci with only 3 subjects, as I've heard the horror stories of everyone applying having 5+ subjects... I don't know anyone who got into Cambridge Medicine with 3 subjects at the moment.

It's MML, actually, which is why I thought it was especially surprising. Yes, you're right, it probably does vary quite a lot due to loads of things. I could NOT do five subjects... everyone must be so impressed that you got in to Cambridge for Medicine!

No that is only broadly true. Although you will receive the same lectures, your college arranges your supervisions, and in fact the quality of the supervisor might vary across colleges for each topic in your course. Sometimes you get a bad one while someone in another college might get a good one, sometimes it's the other way round. It evens out over time though.

Some colleges are also famous for specific subjects (Trinity - Maths, Caius - Medicine, Downing - Law), and the wealth of the college is also a factor. Richer colleges generally means better facilities, prizes and scholarships and may be more willing in arranging extra supervisions for you (they cost colleges money).
