I don't feel too bad about the last three I mentioned. Sexual sin does make me feel incredibly guilty. If you read the Catechism though, there is an interesting paragraph about masturbation:

"
2352 By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."138 "The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose." For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."139

To form an equitable judgment about the subjects' moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability. "

So that makes me feel a teeny bit less bad. I still haven't managed to talk to my confessor about sexual sin though. Probably should at some point. I think he knows even without me saying :o:

i think you are allowed to feel a lot less bad . its not that bad just go for it!

Hey everyone, i posted ages ago with confusing about my religion as a catholic. Once again im in the same spot, i came across a youtube video about atheism then my hours of late night research began. I feel i believe in God, Jesus and mother Mary, however i feel i dont believe in the Bible. Most parts of the bible just have me so confused, i feel like whatever im doing is just considered a sin. Example:

I masturbate : Its a sin

I play the lottery, i gamble once or twice rarely: I committed a sin

I look at porn, look at a girl lustfully : Its a sin

I cant get tattoos or piercings : Its a sin

Rounded haircuts and shaving your beard? i shave my head completely bald and my beard: So is that a sin?

Eating pork, i dont know if this is regarding the jews before the coming of Jesus: Its considered a sin anyway.

Peter had a vision, described in Acts 10:9-16. God tells him to eat, and he says he cannot, for the meat is unclean. Response is "What God had cleansed, you must not call unclean."

Working on Sundays, once again i dont know if its just for the Jews.: But its considered a sin

The Sabbath was made for Man, not Man for the Sabbath.

Women are not allowed to speak out in church: Its a sin

This was necessary for the particular church that Paul was writing to, it is not necessarily something that needed to apply to all churches.

I sometimes find it really hard to believe and follow almost all of these, do you do/not do any of the above and can truly admit it?

Man am i confused.

I've provided answers/solution for some of your problems. It's worth remembering that the new testament overrides the old testament.

PRAISE BE TO GOD! You do not know how HAPPY God feels that he's throwing a party in Heaven for you. You don't know how happy this makes me feel as a fellow Catholic

however i feel i dont believe in the Bible. Most parts of the bible just have me so confused, i feel like whatever im doing is just considered a sin.

You know I am so happy for you - because you are NOW actually QUESTIONING your faith, this is the beginning and "Be not afraid!" as Jesus said many times in the Gospels. Everyone started here - this is where all non-believers began. So don't feel you're the only one

Now - the Bible can be confusing - I know coz I've been there too and I'm sure others can testify too. The Bible is the Word of God that is written by his prophets and saints - this is the Bible - it is the manual or the guide to our Life on Earth, how we should live our Lives each day to serve and Love God. This is applicable to both the Old and New Testament. Both testament proclaim the same message but in the Old Testament - the coming of Jesus our saviour is being PROPHESISED or Foreshadowed and in the New Testament - this Prophecy or promise from God is being FULFILLED

We have to be careful how we interpret the Bible as it is true that it's written thousands of centuries ago that we have to pray for the Holy Spirit, who btw has inspired the Gospel writers to write them in the first place, to open our Mind, hearts and soul to understand its real and true message in our Modern society.

If you find it difficult to start reading the Bible - I would recommend you start reading this book which is the 2nd greatest book next to the Bible ever written: http://www.amazon.co.uk/YOUCAT-Official-Catechism-Catholic-Church/dp/1860827284/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357910672&sr=8-1

Now to explain your examples. Btw, I am a guy like you who have done all those you have done - but once I've let myself free of those things and ACKNOWLEDGE that I am weak over my body and have FULLY given up myself to God, Jesus, Holy Spirit and Mary. Man the feeling of PEACE, AUTHENTIC LOVE and HUMILITY and FAITH and JOY just overflows from my heart! I just wanna praise the LORD all the day of my life
At the end of the day everything that we have been given on this Earth including our BODIES (which is made in God's own image and likeness) should be use for the sole purpose of Knowing God's Love and Will for our life and to use our bodies to authentically LOVE each and every person as much as we Love God and ourselves (Jesus' Greatest commandment). It is only when our life is so Holy and Perfect that we can enjoy eternal joy and happiness in Heaven which is worth all the suffering we have to endure in this Earth and no pleasure on Earth can give just to be with him

The definition of authentic love (opposed to Lust) is the full, faithful, total and fruitful giving up to oneself for another. Just imagine how Jesus died for our sin because he LOVE us so much - he absorbed ALL of our sins so that we can enter Heaven.

As a take home message:

- Remember that God loves you so much even when you sin. He is a merciful Father. Read the Prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32)

“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ So he got up and went to his father.

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

This is why Sacrament of Confession is AMAZING as well as frequent communion in the Eucharist (the Body of Christ). We focus so much on our sin - we often forget how God want to Love us more and more and give himself to us - we just have to pray in silence to listen to his voice despite the noisy world we're living.

I hope you find this helpful. Sorry it's been too long but I Love you so much that I wanna help you get to know Jesus more and be at Peace.

I shall be offering a Mass for your intentions today and I shall also pray the Rosary for you.

God Bless!

Feel free to PM if you want to know more

Just to add to my post above.

This is a quote from Blessed Pope John Paul II (he's in Heaven :

"We are not the sum of our weaknesses and failures; we are the sum of the Father's Love for us and our real capacity to become the Image of His Son."

I have a question that might seem a bit strange and the answers will all be subjective, but...hey.

My question is, how much importance do you place on being Catholic, rather than, say, Anglican/Church of England or one of the other major Protestant denominations? Does denomination impact on what you would see as a person's salvation? And to that end, do you think that other denominations (for sake of simplicity, I'm just going to say 'mainstream Protestants') are misguided or require conversion?

- If people ask me, I tend to say Catholic rather than Christian, because my Catholic identity is very important to me
- I don't believe different denominations are all going straight for the fiery pit. I think the Church is moving away from that these days (or at least that's the impression I get)
- I don't think people require conversion. I think some people lose sight of what is most important in our identity and roles as Christians though. I think all these schisms are a great shame as well (though understandable, to an extent)

If it's not too personal, do you mind me asking why/how?

Agree wholeheartedly with the rest of your post - I think a lot of Christians have lost sight of what is most important, although I might tentatively suggest (no offence intended) that sectarianism and the almost tribal loyalty some people have towards their own denomination is obstructing wider Christianity unity. To some extent it's unavoidable, but it's disheartening for sure.

Oh I just mean in the sense that I am a huge fan of the saints, which obviously other denominations don't really focus on (if they have them at all). Also very much drawn to Carmelite spirituality, which again is an obviously Catholic thing

No offence taken, since I have no tribal loyalty

You could have answered instead of negging me. I genuinely didn't know what you meant.

How does that answer her question?

It doesn't, but at a guess I'd assume he's talking about Peter because of his significance as the 'first Pope' etc.
