Hello ! My name is Eliel Jones. I am a second year Photography student at UCA Farnham and also an official representative in The Student Forum.

Concerning your question about nightlife in Farnham, it totally depends on what type of nightlife you are looking for.

The SU at the University is pretty good and it's usually quite packed with students and different events and nights. The SU nights happen around 3 times a week.

Other than that, Farnham is a pretty good place for pubs and live music. They usually have some awesome stuff around. There are also a few places like The Barn, Insatiable and Slug and lettuce which have student orientated nights.

To be fair, Farnham is not as active as maybe Guildford. But actually, it is very easy to go to Guildford by train as it's a nearby town. There's a lot more places over there for nightlife.

my name is Elena. I'm a mature student at DIT in Dublin and I will be doing an Erasmus in the faculty of photography at Farnham next sept.
It would be great if someone could give me some info such as how may lectures students usually have in a week and for how many days per week. The photography course in Dublin last 4 years and I already have done my second year, we usually were in college only 3 days a week officially for a total of approx 13 hrs lectures...excluding self initiative work and deadlines time. The reason I'm asking is that i'm considering to live in London and commute to Farnham, is a long journey I know!!!! A friend offer me free accommodation + london would be perfect to develop a personal project. If I stay in Farnham I will anyway need to go to London often. :confused:

Any other info about the college and the course you might find interesting would be much appreciated.
I heard great things about Farnham + one of my teachers Anthony Haughey graduated in Farnham few good years ago so I'm looking forward to this challenging year and to start a new adventure in a new institution.

I've had a quick look at this for you, and it looks as if the course will be 4 to 5 days a week, 10 at the earliest to 5.30 at the latest, at least for the first term, which is pretty full-on. Here's where I found that information: http://bit.ly/1ex4CCj - This is last year's information from 2012/13, so please only use it as a rough guide.

If the courses do start at 10am, you'd probably have to catch a train around 8.30am from Waterloo. Trains take about 55 minutes from station to station. From there it's a 10-15 minute walk to campus. If you think you can do the commute, and you'll get accommodation for free, then staying in London would be an amazing experience.

Hi! I have applied for Advertising and I'm from outside the UK, is it easy to integrate? Do you have many students from abroad? I have heard that some people have trouble because they feel like 'outsiders'. I'm really looking forward to studying there but I'm a little afraid about being left out :/ Also, will I be able to attend the Applicants Day even if I don't like in the UK? What should I expect from that day? Sorry for all the questions and thanks a lot in advance :smile:

Hi shalusi, no problem, we're happy to answer all questions!

We've got a very good International team here at UCA, and when you arrive here you can attend social events and workshops to meet other people who have travelled here from abroad, to get to know people before classes start. The SU also put on lots of activities that you can attend to socialise with all freshers.

From my experience our students from abroad do integrate very well into university life, with the people they study with and live with. You will absolutely not be treated as an outsider, so please do not worry in that regard.

You are very welcome to attend an applicants' day if you wanted to! We wouldn't book you on to an applicant day usually just because of the cost and time it would put on you, we wouldn't want to make that compulsory. To get booked into an applicant day, email [email protected] and let them know you would like to attend.

On an applicant day you will have a tour of the campus, meet other applicants and have a session with a member of staff from the course where you can talk about your work, what you can expect from the course. It's sort of an informal interview, but you are encouraged to ask questions and interview the staff as well. It's as much about seeing if the course is right for you as it is the staff seeing if you are right for the course.
