ear pain + wind = PAIN

I have constant ear ache and went to the doctor who told me I don't have an ear infection. I noticed when the wind blows in my ear it hurts a LOT more. I tested this by getting my girlfriend to blow in my ear hard and sure enough it made the 7/10 pain shoot right up to 10/10.

Anyone know what this might be? The doctor prescribed me something to clear my sinuses but this doesn't seem to me (I'm not a doctor) that it's a problem with my sinuses if wind directly makes my ears hurt more. My sinuses don't hurt the pain is solely in my ears.

I tend to get this problem either when:
1) I've been out in the cold for a while and it's particularly windy
2) I'm getting/have tonsillitis - your ears nose and throat are connected, so a problem in one can cause a problem in another.
If it's happening in just one side it could possibly be due to a build up of fluid. I'd say it's worth going to your doctor again, or getting a second opinion.

Hope it clears up soon!

Could be something in your mouth. Have you been to get your teeth checked at a Dentist? I had an abscess and that caused a lot of pain in my left ear.

Thanks for the replies. Actually, it's both ears and they've been hurting about a year. It's just that now it's winter I noticed the wind makes the pain a lot worse.

I went to the dentist in September and she said my teeth are fine. I also don't have a sore throat or a cold or anything, it's solely ear pain.
When I have an ear infection, it makes itself known when it's windy - because that's when it hurts the most. So I would possibly see another doctor, it does sound like an ear infection from my own experiences.

EDIT: If they've been hurting for a year, I'd maybe try to get some tests done... They shouldn't be hurting for that much time!

Surprised you've not been seen by ENT.
Wear something that covers your ears when it's windy, no?

You should push your doctor for some specialist help though.

Yeah I do wear a hat. I wouldn't dare go out without, it hurts so much.

I was just wondering if anyone knew what causes non-infected ears to hurt severely constantly and to be made worse by wind.

Yeah you're right it can hurt my ears normally too, when it's really cold wind.

But my ears are hurting quite a lot constantly even indoors it's just the pain shoots up to the wanting-to-cry level as soon as any wind (even my girlfriend blowing) gets in. I don't think that's normal

No, that is not.

Do your ears feel like they need to pop at all?

Tell me about it, the doctor made me feel like such a moron for bothering them.

No they don't need to pop. I tried popping them myself by holding my nose but it makes no difference to the pain.

Do you have jaw pain at all? I have messed up joints so they're all screwed particularly my jaw... which causes pain in my ears... I have to cover them if it's windy or I want to cry it hurts so much!

No, I don't.

For the past 5 days or so I've been throwing up a lot and feel constantly nauseous which has also coincided with the ear pain getting a lot worse. I don't have any pain anywhere except my ears though.

Go to the doctor again tell them about the vomiting etc. Are you feverish? Could be a virus maybe.

I wouldn't recommend holding your nose to pop your ears, It could damage your ears more. Go to another doctor! I have a ear infection & it's getting better with these recommended drops I got for my right ear & some pills that help to stop the pain! 2 days ago , I couldn't hear from my right ear & now it's starting to open up & letting me hear a bit more! If you wanna know what the drops are called just ask me & I'll tell you

What are the drops you've been using?

I still have ear pain. I saw a dentist, oral surgeon and 5 or 6 doctors, no one seems to know why they hurt so much.

As well as an ENT specialist - it was him who told me to see the dentist.
