Hi! :P
We've been doing benzene chemistry. Has anybody started the unit yet?

Just started unit 5, looking at Benzene chemistry.

I'm just worried about all the synoptic stuff in this unit :frown:

I've had a look at the past papers and it's nearly 70-80% synoptic! I think that'll be good.

Can they ask us any reaction from Unit 4 or Unit 2?

 didn't think it was that much! Will have to dig out all my old notes :s-smilie:

Yeah we've started doing benzene and redox equations (mostly unit 2 recap). For the synoptic stuff, do you mean that they can test you on previous modules?

Yep! They actually test a lot on Unit 4

Am I the only one who finds the synoptic assessments bizarre?

In what way? I guess Edexcel want to prevent students from just forgetting everything from the previous units.

Unit 5 has much less content than unit 4, so it makes sense.

Really? I must put some unit 4/2/1 revision up then as well. Thanks

It's okay...
my chem teacher is making us learn every single mechanism for all of the benzene reactions :s-smilie: even for formation of the electrophile... which I'm sure we don't need for all reactions... So slightly confusing but it's going okay.

What about you?

We've only had one lesson so far due to exams and snow lol. We've just done redox so far, basically recapping AS stuff. But oh dear, I've got mechanisms to look forward to, yay... haha.

Don't mind at all! Yeah go for it!

Thanks, I'm more prepared than June 2012 so hopefully I pick up my A overall in this paper!

There's lots of organic, so make sure you familiarise yourself well with everything. They can ask organic questions from unit 2, unit 4 and of course, the unit 5 arenes and amide/amine section. It's fun though, I like organic.

Transition metals and the electro chemistry section can be weird at first, but go over the questions and they will all make sense

Cheers for the advice, yeah I like organic too. Not so much mechanisms though...
