Tall girls: Do you feel pressured into being skinny?

So what are tall skinny girls then?

Also, what makes tall girls so hot? I've just always wanted to know!

yeah, the wording on my first post was pretty bad. Obviously tall girls are likely to be skinny be default. I just meant, don't go trying to lose weight an be skinny just so you look like supermodels and celebrities, that isn't an attractive personality trait - and sometimes not an attractive physical trait.

What makees tall girls so hot for me? The fact I don't feel like an absolute giant next to them! I'm 6'4" so a lot of girls that I hang around with are pretty short. It has made kissing girls a bit awkward in the past if they haven'tt been wearing heels... so yeah, tall girls are great.

agreed and us girls are under so much pressure about our looks in general.

ah i know right
you always want what can't have too
i bet if i was short and "curvy" i would be like oh why can't i be tall and slim like a model!
overall i'm happy with the way i am anyway, i hope everyone else manages to get to this way of thinking too (:

I'm 5"9. Yes I do feel the pressure to be skinny, but then again I think most women do in 2013. I reckon I'd feel the same way if I was shorter - most of my friends are concerned with their weight, as young women are, whether they are 5"6 or 5"2.
Some people think size 0 when they say "skinny". I simply think "slim". The ideal is to be slim regardless of height. Some taller girls want to fit into that swimsuit model category. Short girls generally look best when they are overall "petite", Eva Longoria style, and therefore thrive for that ideal.
The beauty image has changed in the past 30-40 years, and it's not just high fashion models. Men have changed their preferences as well - they grew up jerking off to Victoria's Secret models. I read that the average Playboy model today has an underweight BMI, which they didn't 30 years ago. Most of the models in men's magazines are in fact underweight. Men are just as receptible to social conditioning as women are. The idea that men will only be drawn to women who look "fertile" is no longer true - plenty of sex symbols have narrow hips and straight bodies - they do not signalize fertility, yet they are sex symbols.
I will admit that my goal weight is one that would make my BMI "underweight". I don't feel underweight when I'm at that weight - my stomach is flat and my thighs are slim, but I do in fact have to eat and diet unnaturally in order to get there - as most "hot" models out there do too. If I eat a normal, healthy diet and exercise regularly, I will still be a few pounds over what is ideal aesthetically. I know many models - they do not have normal diets. In one way or another, at least occasionally, they will starve themselves. That goes for swimwear and underwear models too.
There is a misconception that "anorexic" means a woman has bones sticking out or a tube with artificial food into her nose. Anorexia is an eating disorder, and plenty of women have it, even if they look normal. I know several women with eating disorders, and they are popular with men.

I've had this argument before but I'm still unsure. I've been taught and read in the DSM that one of the criteria for anorexia was a BMI 15% under what you should be and a desire not to increase this.

I have a lot of guy friends who actually glorify certain celebrities and models (Megan Fox etc) but when a non-famous girl of a similar figure comes along they start blasting them as anorexic and stuff :frown:

Why does this occur though ?!

Exactly how I feel! I've infact been called this many times -.- But sometimes I like being slimmer because I actually feel like one of the models (As sad as this sounds)

me too don't worry but thankfully not an insulting way, just by short friends :'] i think it's rude though
just like it's rude to call someone a shrimp or dwarf haha
yeah i got interested in the modeling world last year, as in knowing all the models and watching the shows and definitely found it helped my confidence with my build
think it makes you stand out more too, just something that sets you aside from the rest e.g in a packed club

whoa what is wrong with tall girls ? Have you not SEEN the victoria secrets fashion show ?!

Yes but 99.9% of tall girls look nothing like them. Just because you're tall doesn't mean you automatically have a pretty face/figure. I just hate Amazonian looking women, can you imagine standing on your toes to kiss your girlfriend? And if you're 6ft and wear high heels?!?!?! Yeesh

p/s I ain't no midget, I'm 5"11 and I wouldn't date a girl over 5"6

I love heels so much but always feel so insecure wearing them  Like I tower over everyone. Sometimes it even makes me feel (dare I say it) a bit manly?

It looks so weird when I see these guys with their lanky girlfriends and they're so much shorter than them. It's looks sooooo emasculating like she's leading the way and they're following behind.....but hey it's their life in the end.

Ah that is understandable  Could I also ask what else a girl might do that might make a man feel emasculated ?

Now this turns into a 'tall girls' bashing session
Quite frankly, as a 'tall girl' and in my personal opinion, I couldn't give two hoots whether certain guys thought tall girls were gross or whatever.
As a tall girl, I didn't choose that I wanted to be tall before I was born, that was what I was given so why do some people think it's ok to go around making tall people feel bad because of their height. And for anybody's looks quite frankly, people can't help the way they are.
Personally, I love being tall  I wouldn't have it any other way.
I think some guys should google, Napoleon Complex aka Short Man Syndrome :ciao:
Sorry for my rant, I just hate it when people slate a group of people online for the way that they look, most people are nothing behind a keyboard.

Do I need to point out the hypocrisy of your post or is it self-evident?

I think you'll find short man syndrome isn't slating people for being short. In psychological terms, a man could have short man syndrome and be 7'0 tall. It's a mindset therefore I haven't judged anyone on their height or been nasty towards them for it hence I don't personally see how I've been a hypocrite when all I've done is stuck up for people who get judged for their looks. I haven't judged anybody on theirs. I've just pointed out a complex which could affect anyone regardless of what they look like.

A lot of female attractiveness can be faked. In fact, I would argue that the majority of what makes a woman go from a 5/10 to a 9/10 is pure effort. A lot of the attraction cues men look for - shiny hair, clear and glowing skin, symmetrical features, prominent eyes and lips - can be achieved by professional effort (or in most celebrity cases, like Megan's, surgery). These efforts are so powerful they can almost override everything.
A skinny girl with pale skin, little makeup and an unflattering outfit will often look like a gray mouse, or at worst, pasty and unhealthy. If she has bad posture, never wear heels and has bad hair, it makes it worse. In an attempt to identify what is unattractive about her, most men would recognize her weight, and label her "too skinny".
A model can be size 0 and in reality anorexic, but you make her tone a little, get some spray tan, heels, the right makeup and hair (very important), some sexy underwear, pose her in great angles with some porn music in the background, and she's a "bombshell". One example is Karolina Kurkova. I've seen her in real life, and while she is a nobody on the street, she's a supermodel on the catwalk.
The artificial effort and styling is essential.

I'm 6'0 and I don't feel like I have to be skinny but I do feel as if I think taller, bigger girls would look more out of place being larger. I mean, I'm a size 12 which, in my opinion, isn't exactly skinny but I'm not obese either.
A plus size of being really tall is you can eat like a horse... well, I do anyway

But a thing to keep in mind is that it's harder for a taller girl to get bigger. A size 16 5' girl tends to not be able to pull it off, but at 6' at size 16 you'd tend to look pretty fine!

Yeah I do agree with you there actually. But then does that create the argument that skinny tall girls look worse than a skinny short girl would? Personally, I don't have an opinion on it as long as people are happy with their appearance

I've met Cara Del and she's absolutely stunning :proud:
extremely extremely thin though. A lot skinnier then in her pictures

I don't really have an opinion on it either. You get beautiful women in all shapes and sizes, different ones suit different people.
