Are you attracted to men or women?
Don't really have any questions, just wanted to say thank you for having this thread!

Education is such a huge part of the LGBT community, and it's not often you find someone so open about their identity.

I figure, I dont really have the option for no one to know.. everyone can see me, and see what I am.. so as I cant just ignore it.. might as well embrace it and use it to try and educate more people and help people :smile:

incidentally was on the radio the other day, doing an interview on trans life, and LGBT bullying.. :smile:

Have you experienced bullying? Feel free not to answer if it's too personal to ask!

I've never experienced bullying being bi, but do get a tad annoyed when people use my preference as slang (although I do get why!)

its not like pre-op I have a huge field anyway is it? :P

The only difference I can think of, in terms of potential partners, for a trans girl - between pre, and post op.. is chasers ( old guys who have a fetish for chicks with dicks etc.) - but they are hardly what Im after now.. :wink:

Realistically, I reduce from 0.5% of people to 0.47% of people, after sugery.. It really doesnt make alot of difference :P

Compared to the huge reduction, by just being trans..

Not bullying as such - as I would classify bullying as something which happens repeaditly/from the same person/group..

I would say, what I experiance is better classified as 'harrasment' or 'abuse' - people shouting things at you in the street, or saying offensive things, laughing etc.. and very ocassioanly some physical things..
But its usually 1 off, by a person you will never see again, so no.. I wouldnt say it was bullying..

I transitioned at the age of 20 though, the younger trans girls I know, around 15-17, most of them do sadly experiance bullying in school/college :frown:

there are very few of us.. so thats not suprising :smile:

At uni there are a slightly higher number then normally.. as you get a higher proprtion of LGBT people in education, then you do in the general public, but still not many.. in an average uni there may be 5-20 or so :smile:
Though I only know 3 others in my uni.. (there must be more though)

+ you may have seen one and just not known.. some pass very well, and you would never know :smile: - other, like me, less so :tongue:



on the subject of the bullying campaign though, we are currently running a give-away - we are giving away 5 boxes of beautiful rainbow truffles!
If anyone wants to enter, just head over to facebook, share the picture of our rainbow truffles, and help us spread the word about LGBT bullying in schools! :smile:

Hey, I just wanted to say this is a great thread, it's lovely to be raising awareness of trans people.

What you said about transitionining early and glad you didn't leave it too late rings true for my grandma's friend.
She is a wonderful 74 year old transwoman who moved into elderly peoples accommodation under the name of John, who looked and dressed like a man. She slowly came out to everyone that she was really Jane and everyone was surprisingly accepting (you know what oldies are like!) and she has said she is so happy to be accepted into their community and she started a theatre group with my grandma and I think it's just great, they're so sweet! My grandma comes out with some cracking lines about it 'if he bends over there will be a revelation!' (Jane likes miniskirts!) and telling stories about not knowing where to look (Janes very tall and my gran is tiny!) and her climbing over chairs and my gran teaching her how to walk and bend over like a lady when she is in a dress lol.
The one thing my gran can't grasp is that it isn't a sexual thing - Jane was not gay when she was John, although she is now - she is attracted to women. I find it really difficult to get this across.

Unfortunately Jane moved there because her wife left her when she admitted to being transgender, but she's found a great group of friends and really is an inspirational woman. I just want to say it is lovely to see society progressing so much into acceptance!

Do you feel that enough is being done for the movement of Trans* rights in general? Whilst topics such as Gay Marriage have been dominating the forefront of politics as of late, I can't help but feel there is still a huge chasm in public knowledge and understanding about transgendered people.

What would you personally like to see change in the next couple of years?

god no..

We still lag well behind LGB people, in terms of public understanding.

What would I like to happen? - well Legally, we have pretty much everything we want (though it would be nice for the processes to be a little easier)

Medically, I would love to see a redistribution of funding.. - I wont go into to much details, but its stupid how the NHS funds things.. - they let the local authorities decide (fine) but then the local authorities set a '1 size fits all' list of what they will and wont fund..
For exsmaple in my reigon, the funding body decided a few years back, that they would fund (for trans women) - hormones, lower sugery, and speach therapy. they would not fund: top sugery, lazer/electrolisis (hair removal), or specialised counceling. (only whats provided anyway, nothing tailored to the individual)
Problem is you have some transwomen, would rather have: hormones, hair removal, and top sugery... - it would cost the same, but currently they cant? because of this arbitary set of rules..
So would be nice if this were to change..

+ Mainly, we just need more public understanding (hence why Im happy to do things like this)

For exsample, these days most people now understand that being gay is not a choice..
yet alot of those same people think that being trasngeder is.

Things like this, that stem from the lack of understanding, and media attention on trans issues. (after all we only get on TV, or in the News, when its a peice about how 'wierd and freaky we are' or for comic effect)

So just a change in attitude would make the biggest difference :smile:

Il try and give a sensible answer, even if its a stupid question..

Its not removed as such - the skin and nerve endings from the penis are used to create the new vagina..

So it's sort of like skin grafting?


With the new vagina then, does it like link into the body or is it just a 6 inch or whatever deep hole that's been made?
