I agree he shouldn't have done it but death penalty for frying a hamster? Bit extreme

If this guy is willing to fry a cute little hamster, who knows what else he might decide to sizzle someday? Your children? People like that shouldn't be walking the streets

Source?

People need to know that killing things 'unnecessarily' isn't good, and I can't think of a better deterrent (or learning tool) than the death penalty.

It's the circle of life, isn't it? Kill and be killed, that's all

It isn't necessary to stomp on spiders but some people do it. Guess we should have them all shot (the people, not the spider).

If someone killed my pet tarantula would they deserve death?

Yeah, no-one should be above the law

So the best deterrent to prevent killing is to kill?

Logical...

Has that worked in the U.S? No.

If there's evidence of them stomping on them, then sure

Can you think of a better way to punish murderers and deter would-be murderers in one fell swoop?

So if he'd killed a hideous rat it would've been fine?

Has it worked in any other country?

You can not compare a lobster to a hamster........, is like comparing a snail and a horse

No it isn't.

People still commit murder in countries who have always held execution as the punishment.

Don't put words in my mouth, murder is murder so no it wouldn't have been fine

I swatted a fly last year. Better get that noose ready.

So what punishment would you reserve for people that murder other humans? Unless you now think killing humans and tarantulas are on the same scale.

But it could be so much worse without this punishment!

I don't know, Japan seems to have a fairly low murder rate

Death penalty, obviously.

Thing is that the executioner is killing somebody so we'd better execute them too until everybody's been killed. Bloody humans.

You could always make a robot do it. An automated guillotine, perhaps.
I'd have liked to see him survive if he studied in Leeds

What about an ant? Hell, why stop there, what about bacteria cells?

Spoiler

How will you know if you killed the bacteria? The police have bigger things to deal with, the cost of forensics would be absurd - let's be realistic now!
