How about ACCA?

Hello,

What sort of job can one person get if they have ACCA qualification? Why do people choose it over something like a B.Sc. in accounting?

What is the next respective qualification after an ACCA?

How do you know if ACCA is right for you?

Thanks for reading.

OP, you asked some great questions.

I'm interested in knowing too.

Thanks a lot for appreciating my questions. I thought others might not find them important.

Let's see what others have got to say.
Thanks for replying.

Did the volcanoes teach you that? Average partner salary in a big 4 for accountants - 700k. That's average, not top, average. How many FDs making millions? How many CEOs from accounting backgrounds? As for being more interesting, thats a matter of opinion. You already expressed you have no interest in accounting, so evidently your view is likely to be poorly informed (as further demonstrated by looking at past papers as a method to learn about accountancy qualifications).

1) It's a relativel broad qualification. You can look to work in practice (audit / tax etc), industry (financial accountant / management accountant sort of roles), or just take the knowledge gained and move in to an entirely different field. Some people also head towards finance roles (banks etc).

2) There isn't exactly a follow on qualification (I presume you mean like a masters follows a bachelors). However you can of course perform further study in order to specialise etc. An MBA for example will likely improve your prospects in certain fields.

3) Research, lots of research! It's a difficult path, make sure you know what is involved!

 you made a spelling mistake! Or a typo! OMG!

ACCA is definitely hard. You need to do a lot of homework to pass. And the pass rate is horrible!

Hardly. Majority of that is because of the ease of access to the qualification. Exams/registration is (relatively) cheap and requirements are lower than other more prestigious qualifications. This allows thousands of people to sign up and "have a go" with no intention of taking it seriously.

Are you guys saying that the ACCA qualification is not so prestigious?

Depends what you want to do/where you want to go tbh.

The ACCA isn't harder, the pass rate is lower because of the lack of barriers to entry. It's difficult to get on an ACA contract.

You're saying accounts aren't smart? You sound a bit clueless to be honest. I wonder how you'd cope with something like the ACCA... May I ask what it is that you do?
What makes you say that?

Haha something I never understood, why so people want to become actuaries as I thought it was overrated.
Saying accountancy is easy?

Accountancy qualifications are tough, as attested to by the majority of candidates who hold degrees and for the most part agree that the ACA (or alternative) is more challenging. Your childish comments ("accountancy is a piece of ****") betray your immaturity, what have you done that you consider to be "challenging"?

You're entitled to an opinion, but when it is based on an apparent lack of knowledge you're also entitled to be corrected. You evidently aren't aware of what accountants actually do, perhaps your opinions are based on a stuffy old guy in a suit sitting in a basement that you saw on TV? Many graduates from top universities every year choose to join accountancy firms, perhaps they're all just misguided? Given you haven't even manage to figure out what you want to do yet I wouldn't be so quick to put down others. I think most would take a solid, well paid profession like accountancy over volunteer tutoring, no offence. I also love how in your earlier post you proclaimed that all the smart people work "for charities, banks, doctors, lawyers". Nice way to slot your own mediocre experience in there with some of the top paid professions going...

No idea, never really looked at that career path in depth. Might be great for all I know!

I have no first hand experience of accountancy (would find it a bit dull personally!) but friends on the ACCA talk of knowing people getting fired for failing a few exams.

As it it needs saying the possibility of losing what is probably your first "real" job post-uni can't do wonders for exam performance. I don't think I'd blossom under such pressure.

That goes for nearly all training schemes not just acca or even accounting. It's a tough world.
