It wasn't. It's only different in an incredibly superficial way.
Meh, I don't support Murdoch or the majority of the right-wing press but I think it's seriously hypocritical to side with people who are in essence doing the same thing. I'm not really interested in talking in relatives, 500k a year is filthy rich in my (and most peoples') books.

Rusbridger's conduct and some of the other members of the GMG Board hasn't been good, however, a lot of their bonus came from the Autotrader sale, that particular publication has been a spectacular success for GMG.

The general point is that the Guardian remains one of the few sources of untainted journalism in the UK - anyone who studies the Telegraph, the Mail, etc, regularly, quickly learns that they reflect the positions of their owners in many supposedly journalistic pieces. They also have an absurd obsession with attacking the poor and immigrants which presumably is designed to create a hysterical atmosphere within which they can manipulate the Right.

This is pretty much unavoidable since they've set themselves out in such a way that they simply can't cover some pretty significant topics because they don't fit in with the views of their owners/readership/political affiliations. I'd love it if there was a news organisation that wasn't driven by profits and wrote impartial articles without a clear 'tone'. Even if I agree with the sentiment of a biased article I still find it difficult to read.

Especially those who are politically uninformed or politically apathetic.

If you were to take a survey on peoples political opinions, on average you would be likely to hear more left wing opinions than right wing opinions.

This is especially true at universities. Left wing opinions are vastly more widespread than right wing opinions in academia.

I agree that left wing opinions would be higher at universities. But surely that's because the opinions are from those who are fairly young and less conservative since university isn't entirely representative of the whole academia field.

The thing about this is that conservatism is merely the ideology of maintaining the status quo. The status quo often changes within the 20 years it takes to reach 40. Therefore, if one maintains the same positions then he/she may be progressive at one point in his/her life and then conservative at another. Like, for instance, if somebody supported legalising homosexuality in the 50s/60s without supporting anti-discriminatory laws for them, gay marriages/partnerships, etc. then they would likely have still be considered liberal at that time. If however, they maintained the same positions today then they would be considered conservative, perhaps even reactionary.

Besides, are honestly saying there are no intelligent liberals over that age? I for one don't believe their are no altruistic (though I'm pretty sure the desire to help others comes from the brain and not the heart) conservatives at age 20.

I think I started rambling there but hopefully I still made some good points. :colondollar:

Yeah, I saw all the idiots on Twitter getting their knickers in a twist about something that all parties do every week on Question Time. A total non-story.

Because people get a mild satisfaction by convincing themselves they care about others when naturally they only care about themselves and their family. But this has gotten out of control and has become a popular mindset.
