Work experience to build up your clinical skills. By salaried post I mean a community dentist & other hospital based specialisms. Most places have outreach but they are often a single day each fortnight

Wow that sounds great!

Yeah, I'd definitely say so! I'm scottish and live in quite a small town and go into Glasgow a lot, despite not living there - but Glasgow is tiny compared to London. I found whilst London was busy, the tube is really easy to understand, especially with apps you can get on your phone which tell you any changes you need to make . I also found the tube is a very efficient way to travel - most people just stand on it because it's really quick and can take you from A to B in a matter of minutes.

I'd say the cost of living in London is the biggest factor you should consider, although students living in the capital get a larger student loan to help with that.

If you haven't, I'd recommend that you go to London for a few days to see if you like it or not, and the same with Newcastle. I think it'd definitely help you make up your mind.

Good luck, but most of all well done for being in such a privileged position of having three universities to pick from!

Thanks so much for all the advice - I really value it!

Like you although I live in a small town I go into Newcastle quite a lot, so I know it really well and I love it! I think I will stay in London for a few days  see how I feel

Thanks and best of luck for everything

That's a tough one too! Think I would go for Leeds personally, in terms of the uni, city and dental school

Manchester or Liverpool, I really can't decide. If I go Manchester I stay at home, if I go Liverpool I can move out. Liverpool has more lectures (which I think would be better). I also preferred the dental hospital at Liverpool.

Sounds like liverpools a winner then! I know living out is more expensive but in terms of the social side its so worth it!

This is the dentistry forum but it doesn't make any difference really

Id say definitely st andrews! At belfast everyone seems to be local and go home all the time and thats not what uni should be about! If you're not at home you'll probably be forced to be more sociable, meet a wider range of people and become more independent

Oh, I didn't even notice that. Thread just appeared on the homepage :P

Thanks for the input  I'm leaning that way...

I'd definitely pick Aberdeen! First of all, St. Andrew's is a six year course whereas Aberdeen is only five, and you are only at St Andrew's for the first three years, then you have to move to another Scottish university. Also, I'm of the understanding that for those first three years there you will have no patient contact.

Hi I have offers for law from both lse and ucl but for the love of god I can not decide which one to go for. Which is better for law as this is a deal breaker for me despite me knowing the social chasm that exists at the former. Thanks in advance for any help, so lad there's finally a thread for this!

Ah apologies did not see that this was the dentistry forum.. Though if any could help I would very much appreciate it

hmm, with dentistry I keep saying to not worry too much about the actual course, unless there are significant differences between them, and decide instead whether you'd prefer to go to london or a smaller city.

I know for me it would definitely be sheffield because it'll feel more studenty but if you have your heart set on london then go there
Hi, on my friends account!

Got offers from Birmingham, QMUL, Leeds & Sheffield! Feel so lucky
I live about 40 mins from Birmingham, 2hrs from Leeds/QM and about 90 mins from Sheffield!

Really not sure which one to firm!?

Anyone know much about Leeds? It was my favourite but what are the people like.. etc..

Thanks!

Thank you for making this thread!

My choice is between Sheffield, King's and Newcastle...I am undecided as to whether King's or Newcastle will be my firm choice...

So, King's or Newcastle?

Thanks

Kings based on rep, Newcastle based on fun factor! But Kings still has a VARIETY of clubs etc, so you won't be lacking any fun

Same! Between Leeds, Sheffield and Birmingham!

Think I'm going to be choosing between Bham and Leeds but I come to Bham all the time and don't think I'll enjoy it. Leeds seems so much more lively and fun! Do you knw much about Leeds the city?
