They both speak Korean, which is the same language. I suppose you could look at the effects of half a century of communist propaganda on North Korean language in comparison to the globalised world of South Korea, which would be a very interesting thing to do. Other than that, it's the same.

As far as I'm aware, the language is identical, bar the accent. It's more of a 'rough' accent, from what I've read but I'm not too sure. Some children who have managed to defect to the South sometimes get bullied in school because of their accents.

Yo i'm a south korean here and the language is indeed similar but they have very strong accent and they use different phrasing and have different words for certain things. They have different sayings too - so it's basically the same language but with variations (sometimes extreme).

The country is so isolated because the leaders don't want the populations to discover the reality that they are basically living in abject poverty with famine and that the rest of the word is 70 years ahead of them in terms of advancement.

They are brainwashed about this since birth. This is all so that the ruling party can keep power over everyone. Anyone who rebels or causes enough trouble is executed and their family punished or executed as well.

There is no internet access and only the business elite/government have access to mobile telephones. The only tv/radio stations are goverment run and hence praise the leaders all day long.

I know. The North Korean leader is so controlling that he has even invented hairstyles (which are absolutely hideous) for the people. That goes to show how controlling and nuts they are over there.

Because it is a crazily repressed Stalinist state. People are brainwashed by a pervasive propaganda machine, controlled into submission by fear, or both. Many NK's live in extreme poverty (hence why they only show you around the relatively well-off places if you visited).

Just wondering, why doesn't someone just go into NK and SHOW them the truth? (Granted they'll get their brains blown out, but surely it'll be for the good??) :confused:

No reliable way of doing it. There's no internet there, and whatever goes in and out of NK is heavily controlled, not to mention it is very dangerous to try and enter/exit the country illegally. And of course many North Koreans are aware that they are living in a despotic hellhole but there is little they can do about it.

I think it would be very difficult, but it is is possible for Westerners to get into NK. Chinese tourist boards run state-sanctioned tours of NK, but obviously there are very heavy restrictions.

Your Chinese tour guide takes responsibility for the tourists, so if someone were to slag off Kimmy, the guide would probably face a lengthy prison sentence/death.
