Next best university overall yes but I've never heard anything good about their engineering department. Heard it was in a dungeon Is this true or is it just the words of butthurt 2:2 graduates?
Thanks I didn't know that the city of Cambridge was in London
Haha!
Unfortunately it's either Imperial, UCL or Queen Mary for mechanical engineering in London. But frankly, unless you get into Imperial, there isn't much point in doing an engineering degree in london. Unless you plan to work in the city of course.

Please tell me more? Why? do they not have good industry links? Also Is UCL mech eng good or not? I keep hearing it's bad

All i know is that from the time when i was applying for MEng programmes, after extensively looking into UCL, it didn't seem like people who want a career in engineering would go there. It's more city worker oriented in my opinion and the department itself is no way near as good as the likes of Bath, Southampton, Bristol etc. Thats not to say that if you get a good grade from there, you wouldn't be in good stead for an engineering career. I just think there are many engineering uni's out there that are head and shoulders above it. That being said, I have a friend who got a MEng from Queen Mary, and he works for Airbus :-)

Ah man. The thing is I have a flat in London so unless I can find someone to rent it out to I'm stuck here. What about City and Brunel?

I really couldn't tell you to be honest mate. League tables suggest they aren't very good for it. If you want to stay in London then UCL would be fine (assuming you weren't getting in to imperial?). Just make sure you get a 1st :-).

Given you are in London I see your point, reasons for avoiding normally being the cost of living but if you are there anyway and haven't got the grades for imperial I would look at UCL but I would have thought the offers would be relatively similar to Oxbridge ( which are actually slightly lower than imperial from my experience)
This has got nothing to do with the topic being discussed but is exeter good for engineering, as it is a really good uni but not too sure about its engineering dept especially for mechanical eng

I'm not so sure if i'm being honest. I do know that the uni itself is really good and is improving rapidly too. As far as i know, they offer general engineering as opposed to a more specialised theme, so that may be good if you suddenly decide to switch disciplines..
Yeah i suppose so, but seen as the uni does the same content for all types of eng for the first year, doesnt that kinda imply its not as good as other unis who teach seperate content for the first year?
