Meeting new people in London

Hi there! Basically, I'm fairly new in London and I want to meet some friends but I'm having a bit of a hard time.

A bit of background story, my boyfriend recently broke up with me, and although it was long distance, I guess I relied on him quite a lot for my social interactions. I've got friends but mainly from back home and I don't get to see them as much as I'd like. I work full time and even though I've only been there for a few months I've already worked my way up a bit, but most of my colleagues are older, married and have children so although I get on with them well I don't really meet up with them outside of work.

I currently live in a shared house and although I'm on friendly terms with my housemates, they're only staying in London for a few months maximum, and the house doesn't have a living room so most stay in their bedrooms.

I'm looking for people to spend some time with. I'm looking for good friends and, without being too forward, I'd love it if I made friends good enough that some time in the future we could share a nicer flat together, instead of house sharing with people I don't know where it's fairly unsocial...I'm looking for people to make plans with for Saturday afternoons and after work. At the moment after I finish work unless on the rare occasion I am seeing friends from back home I usually just go home and hang out in my room. Which gets a bit depressing after a while. I'm making ok money now and I'd love to go out with people and enjoy my time in London, but I don't know where to start.

Sorry for the rambling message! Does anyone have any suggestions for websites and things aimed at meeting people? Most of the ones I've seen arrange huge meet ups and although I'm not too shy, I do get a bit intimidated by large numbers of people.

Thanks again for the hep!

You say you work full time. Does your work provide any sort of social activity? If so, then you could get involved with these and hope to meet new people? Even if there isn't anything official, what's stopping you going out with your work friends?(that's assuming they are the kind of people you would want to socialise with!)

Other than that, and relying on old friends, I am not too sure what to suggest. London can be a very lonely city at times.

What is it like there? I see some of it from the DLR and it looks quite nice.
If you want to meet people..... posting anonymously...not exactly the greatest way for people to get in contact with you?

They do hold some socials occasionally, although the last one was held just before I joined the company. I will try to get involved in some in the future though . Most people at my work are older and married with children. The younger ones seem to have their own social groups too and tend to only be interested in socialising in work. I have made a few friends but they tend to only want to meet outside of work on the odd occasion, whereas I'm wanting more of a bustling social calendar .

I know, I was hoping if some people were interested I was going to message them without hiding my identity.

It's nice. It's quite quiet in that there is not much of a social scene, but it does have pretty views of the Thames and it's convenient for work as I work on the Isle of Dogs .

Are you a boy or a girl?

I live in London and can relate to what your saying. I occasionally go out with people from work but it hasnt exactly blossomed into great friendships. I have a bf but he's busy a lot. How old are you?
