Across is from one side to the other (without specifying a direction of movement), down is from the area of highest concentration to lowest :smile:

You can never have substances going across a concentration gradient. They either go down (from high to low concentration) or up (from low to high concentration) a concentration gradient. If the concentrations are the same there is no diffusion
