Chuka Umunna, Labour MP, says he won't mix with "trash" and "wannabes"

Well, I mean, Labour, they really have sunk to an all-time low with this one!

I wonder what "trash" and "wannabes" they're referring to? Clearly tell Chuka is a mere champagne socialist, another career politician with no care for ordinary working class in this country.

It's the more revealing of you than of him that you interpret his reference to "trash" as being to the working class.

I'm not sure about the extent to which he can sensibly be held to account for something written on a message board seven years ago. But if we consider the very little context that we have, that reference to "C-list wannabes" haunting West End clubs suggests that he is talking about rather costly venues...

Hey lets go out but lets avoid the trashy looking people, what if an MP had made a comment that came to light a few years later saying hey lets go out but we'll avoid the black people or the gay people? Would it still be a gaffe?

It's a different thing. It looks very much as if he's talking about the crowd at Chinawhites. "C-listers" (minor soap-stars, footballers at championship clubs, little known models) necking champagne and doing lines. I think the spin here is in unearthing this quote and suggesting that this talk of 'trash' is directed at the poor.
It's a fairly legitimate comment to make.
