Then they should start by making better choices in browsers. :colonhash:

You can use latex :smile: I'll type it up for you now:

x=7×10mx = 7 \times 10^{m}
y=5×10ny = 5 \times 10^{n}
xy=72×1012xy = \frac{7}{2} \times 10^{12} (1)

So multiply them ans you get:

xy=35×10m+nxy = 35 \times 10^{m+n} (2)

Now you have xy in another form.

35×10m+n=3.5×101235 \times 10^{m+n} = 3.5 \times 10^{12}

You can see that (2) is 10 times bigger than (1).

So what would m+n have to be?
Does that help?:smile:

Slightly more rigorous solution:

35×10m+n=3.5×101210m+n+1=1012log1010m+n+1=log101012m+n=12135 \times 10^{m + n} = 3.5 \times 10^{12} \\ 10^{m + n + 1} = 10^{12} \\ \log_{10} 10^{m + n + 1} = \log_{10} 10^{12} \\ m + n = 12 - 1

I've missed maths, man... :redface:

Oh, yeah. My bad.

Icky icky inspection it is, then. But I'd still do the first to second line, then just compare the powers. My Maths teachers drilled a hate for inspection into me and MADE me spell everything out line by line, even if it was as simple as dividing by 2 and adding 2 at the same time. :colonhash:
