Going to a gig alone

Has anyone ever been to a rock concert on their own? Modest Mouse is coming to Birmingham this summer and they're in my top 3 favourite bands of all time. The only problem is that nobody I know likes them  I'm a girl in first year in uni and the latest I've ever been out on my own is about nine, so I'm a bit scared

I'm pretty much in the EXACT same boat as you! I got 2 tickets to see The Starting Line in London but I don't know anyone who likes them / wants to go with me, so looks like I'm going alone... I've NEVER been to a gig on my own and I'm super scared! -_-

It's really frustrating isn't it? How come you got two tickets though? Shame you're not in the Midlands, we could have done a sort of you-come-with-me-I'll-go-with-you deal
Yeah I saw InMe by myself it was actually pretty enjoyable, if you've ever lost your friends at a gig before and still been able to enjoy it then there's no difference.

I'm going to a show on my own and I'm pretty scared about it too! I'm sure though that once you are in there and having fun you won't be worrying no more!

I really hope you're right. I'm just going to take the plunge and buy a ticket and proceed to get excited

I bought two because I hoped one of my friends would go with me... but I've lost touch with my friends who are in to this kind of stuff as I've moved to Kent :frown:

Yea it's fine, I've been to "gigs" alone plenty of times. It's one of the easiest things to do on your own - you're there for a reason other than just to socialise.

I've been to a gig before on my own, it was an Arcade Fire concert in Manchester and none of my friends wanted to go with me, I even asked my Dad if he would come but he said no too! it was fine though, when you're standing you can't really talk to your friends anyway and you get separated
Going togheter is nicer, but sometimes u have no choise...

This year I started going to gigs on my own and I realised it's way more enjoyable. For a start I love dancing on my own, so don't tend to notice who's around me. Secondly I like the freedom of being able to go home as early/late as I want without having to ruin my friend's night or ditching them.
I go to gigs alone all the time and I'm a female, I've never felt threatened - I go to a lot of mad underground gigs where the music is brilliant and just dance on my own for hoooours. You have to be sensible of course and look after yourself, don't put yourself in vulnerable situations, but I see absolutely no reason why you should not go. I went to see Bon Iver on my own at the 02 acadamy in birmingham actually ahah - (I'm a brummy) - is that where modest mouse is?

Thanks for the encouragement  and I'm so jealous, I love Bon Iver! Modest Mouse will be at the Institute. Never been there but I love the O2 academy, I went to see Marilyn Manson there

Ahhh the institute's great! Definitely go, you'll be totally safe. If you feel nervous stick near the staff, or let a member of staff know you're feeling a little nervous perhaps.

I live in London and the Starting Line is good but I can't afford to go because I am a broke student. :frown:

Before I went to college I used to do this all the time as non of my secondary school mates liked punk/hardcore. I've always had great experiences as I find it's so easy to talk to people at gigs 'cus you share a common interest, aha. Go to it and meet some new people is my advice

I went to a gig myself a couple of weeks ago. At first I was a bit anxious and felt weird, but then I realised that if I like the band enough, who cares? I just chatted with people in the queue, and when buying drinks, and when the set started I just completely forgot I was there alone and enjoyed myself.

So yeah, just go for it
Went to see Alex Clare alone. One of the best decisions I've made.
Do you have a friend who isn't neccessarily a fan of Modest Mouse but would accompany you just as a favour as a friend? Or are your friends adamant that they're not interested? Sometimes I haven't had an interest in a band but have gone along with an open mind to have fun with my friends and have had a really good time!
