Maybe at first you'll have guys looking at you and hitting on you, but I'm sure after a few days it will all die down and it will be fine! Just be yourself, try and have a laugh and make friends with the others in your class (whilst doing your work at the same time of course :P) and focus on doing well in the subject.
Even if you don't like it at the school, its just for one less and as I'm nearing the end of year 13, trust me that A-levels go by really quickly!

Thank you so much for the great advice! I'd say I'm a pretty shy person, but making friends has never been too hard. The subject is something I really wanted to do, so I'm grateful for the opportunity!

I would be fuming too! Our school only offers Applied Science, but the universities in Northern Ireland aren't fans of it at all and prefer straight science. My teacher and the science department have made it clear that it shouldn't affect my university options, but I know that it will as my back up career choice instead of clinical psychology would definitely be something in the Biology field!

Well don't let it get in your way as at the end of the day your are there to learn, as I will be, and the new environment shouldn't effect that. Well, maybe in the first week or too but after that I'm sure we'll both be fine

Schools in my area have a deal where some A Level courses are offered at different schools, meaning I can join a new school to do a course that isn't offered. So this is what I'm going to do, Biology in a school quite close to ours.

I have no idea what I'm going to do, it's a big school! I don't know anyone there at all and it makes it worse being an all-boys school!
Has anyone got any tips on fitting in? (Without having to make another 'She's The Man' movie?)

You are right, and we won't be there all of the time any way so we shouldn't worry about it!
It's just in my nature to worry slightly haha.. Oh I definitely will, you'll have to tell me how things are going with you too, I'll be interested to hear!

I will indeed take it as something to learn, how can you being someone who does not have English as a first language not be aware of the complexity of speaking a foreign language. Um....well it was interesting. But I also liked sociology so I just dropped our of politics for that.

Sociology is more content than study, from what I hear-psychology is a lot of studies! It's quite interesting, as is psychology. Both require concise, get to the point and don't waffle writing- both of which are my weakness!

"Fitting in?" Since it is only for one of your A-levels I don't think there will be much free time available on hand to 'fit in' with everyone in the sixth-form as you'll only be attending the Biology lessons at set times rather than spending your whole day there through painful lunch or break times. I attended an all-boys 6th form grammar school and everyone there works immensely hard and are so driven so that could be one hard-pressed benefit, which will undoubtedly make you work harder and achieve the best results…never know could beat all the boys. Lol. Also if you’re worried about you being in the biology class itself I don’t think it would be a big problem. First of all you could have a female teacher and from experience esp. an A-level class you’ll hardly have time to talk if you do, it would mostly be about the work…or not lol.
Is this your only option? Surely, there must be an alternative because if you aren't completely comfortable with idea then it may be a detriment to your learning. Why not do it externally? I know a lot of people who have done this but only because their college/6th form subject timetable clashed.
But like you mentioned it’s only for “ONE”, so I don’t really think you’d be spending much time there. Just popping in and out of lessons.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hi there! I don't have the option to do it anywhere else without completely changing schools to a grammar, but it's reputation isn't the best and I wouldn't want to even consider it!
About your comment on working hard, I have contacts in the school and they have all said this to me however I am just worried about going to a completely new school (which is a new build as well, not many people know their way around yet as it was built only months ago). However I reckon while I'll be fine in the classroom apart from this I may have problems as far as in my registration class and in the study periods that have been allocated already...
I'm sure I will be fine though - it's just a matter of getting used to a new school system as opposed to a mixed school that I am so comfortable with!

No worries! Also, I'm a pretty shy person too but I found that going through college and being in classes with completely new people kinds if forces you to overcome your shyness, so you will be a lot more confident after the two years

My school didn't offer German A Level so I had to go to the boys grammar school a few minutes walk away from my school (all girls).
I had obviously socialised with boys a fair bit before so it wasn't the case of 'Oh my god a boy!' but it was pretty intimidating to go from one completely different environment to another. Luckily I had another girl there with me but she was away a lot so it didn't really help.
The first few lessons I was pretty intimidated and it took me a while to get the confidence to talk, especially in German, haha! I am quite a shy person though so that probably didn't help.
Try and socialise a little with some of the boys in your class so lessons are less awkward and you have something to talk about, other than just school work etc. Also, this will mean you can chat to them out of lessons if you need help or something, as obviously you can't just pop to see the teacher or a fellow pupil as easily if you are only there an hour per day.
Try and be confident and just be friendly. I got over the initial fear quite quickly and it was very interesting learning with boys instead of girls - much more relaxed, I found. It will be very different for you and will take some getting used to but it will be worth it
