Is there a Facebook group for the York firmers this year? If not I would be happy to make one if there was enough demand for it.

I've not seen anything. Sounds like a good idea.

Go for it!

I've just seen one called York Freshers 2013-2014.

(I'm hoping this is not one that has since been made, otherwise I'm going to look a little stupid...)

I think that might be for the University of York in Canada. Could be wrong.

No, you're right that is the Toronto one - I get so confused between them when searching for information about York!

Didn't see this post before I added my own. :colondollar:

Know what you mean - the stereotypes/ rhymes of the other place are hardly reassuring...

I suggest you shut up.

I'm an English applicant, but the Law course looks pretty good too! I think I saw one of your previous threads about missing offers; I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure you'll do fine and I've heard they sometimes let people in anyway if they don't get the grades.

What college are you thinking? (Is Law based on the main campus of the other one (I forget which is West and which is East :colondollar:)?)

Haha, I really do hope so. Our school does a 2 year A level course, so I have only just started revising now - but I have to do AS and A2 exams which is why I am so nervous!

I like the look of Goodricke (on Hes East ) but Langwith is newer and has nicer facilities! They are on the Law side.

Anyways what attracted you to York? The Law course is so unique and suited me really well.

 I'd hate to do my AS/A2 exams all at the same time! At least there'll be some space between them... at least I hope so for your sake. Good luck! I have just the two (three is you count a practical one) exams in summer, so not too worried provided I find the motivation some time.

The colleges on Hes East all look so nice, just a same there're not on the main campus (I think Derwent took over the old Langwith site). I was looking at ALcuin, but I'm too poor for an en suite  so it's looking like Derwent (possibly Vanbrugh) at the moment for me.

The English course also seemed really unique compared to other unis with its foreign literature module, and I like the fact its not as exam based as other unis too because I always feel like I don't have enough time to say what I rreally want to/ anything particularly inspired. The city is also beautiful with a great range of attractions/ shops, and for me, it's in a perfect location being neither too far away from or too close to home.

Exactly! Prefer coursework any day, and 10% of people got 1st's at York for Law, that is a good 3-4% above places like Warwick and Durham.

I live in Central London, so it is a huge trek for me, but I love the city. It has a really nice feel as you said. I know a few friends who go there and they absolutely love the place to bits, haven't heard a bad word about it.

Oh, apart from the ducks, apparently they are deadly :colondollar:

I like ducks! :u:

I'm still a little confused as to degree classses, if I'm honest. I get how they work, but considering that different unis have different assessment methods I don't really see how we can accurately compare across institutions. But yeah, taking the two you listed (which are quite popular for my course as well) Durham's course didn't seem as diverse to me and is predominantly exam based, whilst I'm not too keen on Warwick's location. Reputation is variable, but all three are very good.

It must be quite a big change moving away from London - the thought of living there terrifies me, so I didn't apply to any of the London unis. But I guess it would be a very varied existene, with the mix of cultures etc. I live in a smallish town at the moment, so whilst York will be a step up as a city, I like that it seems a bi more friendly/ quiet than other ones.
