things we will have to explain to kids in the future

Technology is being developed faster than ever, when we're parents/grandparents we're going to have a lot of explaining to do arent we ...

Currently there's a music show (pick of the pops I think) that plays the charts from the current week ie 2nd week in april but from a year between 60s-90s. At christmas there's also shows that have a run down of all the christmas number ones etc.

We're going to have a fun time explaining how/why rage against the machine was a christmas number one as was bob the builder I think. Plus more currently, ding dong the witch is dead.

What other technology etc do you think we will have to explain? CDs, videos, having calls where you can't see the other person on a screen?

That rewinding video tapes meant actually physically rewinding the tape, and that it was one of the worst breaches of etiquette to put someone's tape back in its case without rewinding it.

I already have to explain this to my daughter. She is also yet to be convinced that everything wasn't in black and white in the 'old days'. She also can't understand why I didn't have a mobile phone and tablet compute when I was 7.
Where Pokémon live :teehee:
That it is possible to get great enjoyment from reading a novel. Not just playing on or watching things on a computer.

That you can have a great time with your family playing sport outside, like cricket. Not just in front of a screen with a WII mote.

I think we need to keep up the hide and seek, go-kart building, tree house building and remote control car racing culture. Before things like handheld gaming devises and computers take over.

I've thought of more: Only 3 channels on the TV, phone boxes, blackboards in school (all interactive whiteboards these days), penny sweets and there's probably more.

We'll have to explain why they are named after Harry Potter characters & soon enough, what a paperback is.

Have you also tried explaining that when you wanted to change the chanel on the TV you had to get off your arse, walk over to the TV and press a button unless you had one of those fancy TV's with a remote controll tethered to the TV by a wire! Also that for years there was only 4 channels until channel 5 was launched and even then, after 9 oclock all they put on was porn!

Car phones - they've died a death haven't they?
You had to get out, open the boot, plug the handset into the box of tricks that connected with BT and then you could call someone for like a tenner a minute!

I can also remember when super unleaded cost 76p a litre.
