do 7/8 and then flip the 3/4 and multiply by the numerator and denominator.

If you were to take 16 things and divide it amongst 8 people, you'd get 2; if you divided it amongst 2 people, you'd get 8. So clearly if you divide by x, and then divide by x/4, you get four times the first answer.
So what we want is 4 times (7/8 divided by 3).
Now, if we took 48 things and divided it by 3, we'd get 16; if we took 6 things and divided it by 3, we'd get 2. So clearly if you divide x by 3, and then divide x/8 by 3, we get an eighth of the original answer.
So 4 times (7/8 divided by 3) = 4 times 1/8th of (7 divided by 3). But 4 times 1/8th of anything is 1/2 of that thing.
Hence we want 1/2 of (7 divided by 3).
(In practice, you wouldn't use such a longwinded method; Music99's is a handy shortcut that once you're familiar with why it works, you would use all the time.)

As Music99 has shown, dividing fractions is easy. You flip the one you're dividing by upside down, then multiply.
ab÷cd=ab×dc=adbc\frac{a}{b} \div \frac{c}{d} \\ = \frac{a}{b} \times \frac{d}{c} \\ = \frac{ad}{bc}

For example. 1/2 divided by 3/4 is:
12×43=46=23\frac{1}{2} \times \frac{4}{3} \\ = \frac{4}{6} = \frac{2}{3}

That's correct.
1215=45=0.8\dfrac{12}{15} = \dfrac{4}{5} = 0.8
Hopefully one of those answers is on mymaths
what exam is this for? gcse?

You can simplify the fraction. What number goes into both 12 and 15?
