The Student Room Group

Swahili Learners' Society

After searching for a thread, I can't really find one for people who want to learn or already speak Swahili (Kenyan, if the region has a big impact)

I'm learning from scratch and the only issue I've come across so far is finding the right verb to use and what it actually is...

So if there are any fluent speakers, or anyone who wants to learn, please post!

Asante :biggrin:

Jambo! Habari za asubuhi? I don't speak Swahili but I started learning it for a while last summer (although now I've forgotten most of what I learned...) My mum is British but she was born in Kenya and lived there until she was 11, so there is the odd Swahili word that we use around the house! I'm very keen to learn more :smile:

Aah, yay! My friend also wants to start learning properly again, because he lived in Kenya up until 5 years ago but he spoke bukusu (his tribe's langue) more fluently... And now after 5 years of never using it, he's rusty with his Swahili, so I think he wants to pick it up again over the summer!

As for me, I want to learn it, because it's my first African language, and it'd make sense...

So do you know any grammar? There is a very good link above :smile:

Haha, fair enough :') I normally dance around with my legs in a funny position. I'm sure they'll get it!

For those of you who are starting here are some important things to remember:

A = c(a)r
E = b(e)d
I = s(ee)n
O = r(o)b
U = l(oo)t

That's how you pronounce each vowel and this never changes!
