Exams entered in wrong name?

The exam certificates are not issued till October. I checked as I'm changing my surname now. You can speak to the exams office at your school and they'll sort it out for you.

Honestly it's not a big deal though, since it's your first name and they're very similar. Up to you though.

THANKS! but i was just thinking about UCAS too, i found out they check the gcse results you tell them against the exam boards' results, obviously i'll be applying to university as Robinson so they won't find my results? Also for controlled assessments i've signed some of the sheets to confirm I sisn't cheat etc. but my name on them is Robbie? Will that cause a problem?

If the school has your legal name correctly then when your certificates should have that name even if the paperwork you get given has Robbie. However, it is best to check with the exams officer and I would recommend you make sure it says Robinson. I'd do it sooner rather than later but as long as it is done by 20 September then your certificates should have any changed name on them. It won't be disastrous either way for UCAS as they will find your results using your UCI (the 12 digit single letter code that ties all your results together)

thanks! my concern is what if worst case scenario they take all of my exams etc away from me as I have sat them in the wrong name and signed the forms to say I haven't cheated in coursework (it's only the english one I'm aware of that has been sent off so far) with Robbie, however my signature is basically Rthen my surname, I don't specify Robbie or Robinson in my signature.

They definitely won't take your exams away from you :P. Speak to the exams office at your school, but I'm sure there will be no problem. Concentrate on revising not worrying about your name :smile:

They won't take your exams away from you. You'd be surprised at how many people land up being entered for exams in the wrong name, sometimes they don't even know what their legal name is until after they get the certificates. Families can be messy - I have know someone land up with GCSE, AS and A levels certificates in 3 different names but he has the same UCI for them all and it caused no problems with UCAS. Do talk you your exams officer when you get back to school but, in the meantime, don't worry, your problem is far more common than you think.

Happened to me and I asked my form teacher, she told me where the exam officers room is. I asked them to change my name and they asked to come back with my passport and they changed it.

Your results are saved under your candidate number and are always saved under the system. They use candidate numbers to avoid things such as this. If your next exam after still says Robbie on the piece of paper, write that down in your exam regardless and then ask why just in case although it's unlikely that'll happen after you ask to get it changed.

Never really understood what the paper was for.

It happend during 2 exams. For the first exam the card said my nickname, but by the second one after asking the exams officer the card now said my full name on my passport as I wanted. My results sheet had the correct name too. :smile:

hey, tomorrow I'm going to go and speak to the exams oficer. But just to be sure, is it really not risky to do this? I know that it's been said on here that they won't take my exams away from me. However, in reality, I have sat my exams in my non-legal name, it is not a real name or person. Will they not either claim it to be some sort of fraud or something? Seiing as it was not that I wasn't aware of my legal name, I was fully aware. It's also been said on here that people get it changed when they change their name. Obviously because they have changed one legal name to another, when they sat the exams originally it was under a legal name, mine wasn't. Is it worth the risk, will anything happen?

Nothing will happen if your passport and birth name is the same, and trust me, being only a Secondary School student they won't do anything such as accuse you of fraud. :tongue:

I promise you nothing will happen, they'll just change it for you and thats it. :smile:

Ah another Robbie! Well similar to you my birth-name was Robert, but I've come to know the name Robbie as my own, its the same with me, on all the registers and everything and my candidate card also says Robbie, but when I got my remark back it said Robert, so I'm sure they have records of it.
