Without sounding ignorant, what could be the background to this? Always thought Chechnya only had issues with surrounding countries.

They're middle eastern looking. That's how they were described by arresting officers at the scene. They didn't have time to do an ancestry report :rolleyes:

Possible Hezbollah/Iranian operation?

Hezbollah/Iran has recently been caught up to no good in Azerbaijan (which Iran borders). Lots of Iranian agents have been caught there.

Azerbaijan borders close to Chechnya. Easy access.

Additionally, Iranians have been streaming into Georgia recently to escape Iranian oppression. Georgia borders Chechnya.


Only problem with that theory is that Chechens are overwhelmingly Sunni and may not want to get involved in a Shia terrorist plot.

why? Assuming you live in the UK you shouldn't worry. Even if you were in the US, the chances of you being attacked are less than the chance of you being run over by a car, and we take that risk everyday.

That poster actually lives in Boston, so I said "must be worrying", as in it must be worrying for him - in the past week, there have been a series of bomb scares and "false alarms", so people in the States are edgy and on their toes.

What's more is that the police are saying that they're trying to catch the second suspect as soon as possible before he "self-detonates" - and that could be in a busy area, hence why people are being told to "go home" and say indoors.
