Core 2 great because i'm doing a2 now so I feel a lot better about the resit. And the rest...hmm maybe ok :smile:

Right okay, I'm stuck!

Quadratic equation.... (2k-3)x^2+2x+(k-1)=0
K is a constant, has real roots

show that 2k^2-5K+2 is less than or equal to 0

i've done this but ..???

b^2 - 4ac is greater than or equal to 0

2^2 - 4 x (2K - 3)(k-1) is greater than or equal to 0

4 - 4(2k^2 - 5k + 3) is greater than or equal to 0

I end up with

2k^2 - 5k + 3

where am i going wrong?

4 - 4 ( 2k^2 - 5k + 3 ) does not equal 2k^2 - 5k +3

You need to multiply the brackets out by the -4 instead

Yeah, you expand 4-4(2k^2 -5k +3)
to get 4 - 8k^2 +20k -12 > 0
which simplifies to -8k^2 +20k - 8 > 0
and if you flip it all to the other side of the equation
8k^2 -20k + 8 < 0
divide by 4
2k^2 -5k + 2 < 0
